    Looking for custom cuts

Thanks everyone. I love the cereal box idea :-) Perhaps I will try that or just make a cheap oil loaf simply for sizing different cuts. I could use crazy colors and shave it into confetti or something after :)

    Looking for custom cuts

How many of you have custom sized bars? I want to order a new cutter and I am thinking about getting custom spacing between wires and having shorter, chunkier bars. I keep drawing out different dimensions but it's hard to tell how it will feel in my hand on paper. Right now I use the standby 1"...

    How to explain differences

Thanks so much for the advice everyone! I did very well and only a couple of people wanted to compare us. I simply said that we both take a lot of pride in what we do and it is just a matter of preference. People were fine with that and I was positive and simple. I need not overthink sometimes :-)

    How to explain differences

Thanks everyone. Great comments! Phew...I am sure once I survive today I will feel better. :-) I admire the other company's success and you are right...both soap but different products. Hopefully people won't even ask.

    How to explain differences

Hi everyone. I am going to be selling at our local market starting today. There is another soaper there that is huge. They are a million plus dollar handmade soap company. They sell internationally and have been in the business for 30 + years. They continue to sell at market to show hometown...

    Collecting Sales Tax

I am in NYS and I have found no easy way to do this. I am also positively sure that it is based on destination and with state and county taxes...ugh. I agree that there must be a program out there somewhere. If you find an answer please let me know.

Thickening coconut oil liquid soap. Help!

Awesome idea for writing notes right on the ziplock! I am letting it sit for another week then going to test it out. If it's still too thin I was going to make another batch of paste to add. Upping the superfat by a percent or two is a great idea!

Thickening coconut oil liquid soap. Help!

Ohhh! I do have some guar gum :-) I will try that. I wanted this one to be thicker because hubby tends to dump it into the cleaning water - my hope was that if the viscosity is thicker he will not be so gung-ho with it ;-) As far as the borax - Usually when it is used it is to lower ph. I...

Thickening coconut oil liquid soap. Help!

Yes. It was a lot of water. When I use KOH I don't use a set amount I just dilute slowly until it feels "right". The 2.5 amount came from what I have read about using both lyes. I have some crothix that I use with shampoo but I was hoping not to "waste" it on a soap I made for around the house...

Thickening coconut oil liquid soap. Help!

I made some liquid soap using all coconut oil. I mainly want to use it as dish soap as the liquid soaps I've made with olive oil etc aren't cleansing enough. I used 60% potassium hydroxide plus 40% sodium hydroxide so it wouldn't be thin. I also used borax to thicken even more and diluted at 2.5...

    What to expect

I signed up for a large event locally. It is my first large craft show and the booth was expensive. The show is in a few weeks. After sending my application I never heard back. I got in touch to ask if I was accepted as my check had been cashed and I was told yes. I have not heard anything...

Bug soap, spray or lotion and the FDA

Pretty sure it is for repellents. This is the page that led me there: http://cfpub.epa.gov/oppref/insect/ FDA page said insect repellents regulated by EPA and not FDA. Think as long as I follow the EPA label requirements it's good. Good idea to check with both agencies to be sure though.

Bug soap, spray or lotion and the FDA

Finally found something! http://www.epa.gov/oppbppd1/biopesticides/regtools/25b_list.htm Seems as if there are labeling rules but as long as I stick to the ingredients listed on this page then no approval is needed. This just got a lot easier! :-)
