    my great grandmother's soap recipe

I found this while cleaning out boxes of old photos .. My Great Grandmother lived in St. Hippolyte, Saskatchewan, Canada and this is translated from French. The year was 1909 "We had a 3 year old sow and she raised quite a few litters of pigs. When we butchered her she was dressed at 830...

Has anyone opened their NY Eve Castile?

With New Year's Eve creeping up I was curious about mine and opened them up I made two batches .. a 30% water/ 5% SF batch poured into 2" pvc pipes, and then because they took so long to dry enough to cut I tried a 20% water/ 2% SF poured into round cavity silicone. The 20% water batch all...

    talk to me about ricing

I haven't made soap in quite a while and tried a batch the other day. It's oatmilk and rose clay on the bottom 1/2 with activated charcoal on the top. I mixed my lye with 20% salt water and added the oatmilk to the oils. The combination of salt water/oatmilk and fragrance traced SUPER fast...

    Found some Jewel weed

I found some wild Jewel weed while out on a hike today. I picked as much as I could but don't have too much. I found one post where the poster boils the stalks until the water is orange and then uses that to make the soap. Any other suggestions? I don't know if I should boil it while it's...

    Long time, no soap

ooohhh I've been away so long. This house renovating and summer yard and work are really taking a bite out of my soaping and it's making me twitch. Yesterday while hubby was still sleeping and before we started working in the bathroom again I quickly grabbed a failed soap and made some sugar...

Cavity swirls - no I don't need the dentist!

Just playing with swirls in my cavity mold and liking the results The pale purple was a mix of rose clay and blue mica .. it started out a moody brown maroon colour and morphed into the colour I hoped I'd get, so I'm really pleased with it. Scented with lavender and tto eos. The green/white...

    Whaziz yellow stuff???

Any ideas? I mixed a 3lb batch of the salt brine soap with green and blue oxides to make ocean type swirls. It was quite thick when I poured it. A bit of left over batter went into ice cube molds for mini bars. The yellow is only on the mini bars, none on the full sized rounds.

HELP! separated - how to get it back together?

I made a batch on the 17th and poured it into cavity molds. It sat there like pudding and refused to become soap. Today, after 4 days of pudding, I put in the oven thinking I could push the saponification but NoOOO, that was a bad idea. Rather than finish, it separated. I had 12 cups of...

    Oh just gel already!

Made some coffee soaps and oddly enough, they tried to gel. I say odd because I poured them into my cavity molds and I didn't think they would gel in those, particularly with no insulation. Anyhoo .. they partially gelled and after looking at them for about a week I decided I couldn't stand...
