Rancid Oils, Is there a use?

I have a small amount of rancid oil that I would like to use up. Is there any way to use this in a lye based soap that would hide the smell of the rancidness? I'm thinking a strong Cinnamon might hide the smell but I want to see what others experiences have been.

    Frothing Soap

What's the PH of soap? I wonder if you could add baking soda to it to get a reaction... Don't try it yet, wait for someone who is smart about this stuff to answer first. I'm just planting the idea.

    Lye burn and the aftermath...

So now I'm curious on people's opinions. Is it better to go gloveless so you instantly know when you get something on your hand and can immediately tend to it or wear gloves and possibly get burned because some leaks into a glove unknowingly? I know when I wear gloves for any length of time my...

    Protective equipment

I just realized I am WAY too relaxed when I soap... Time to put clothes on I guess. Looks like soap making just got a little more formal.

Rebatching M&P bars with my soap bars?

That sounds like some good, real life pointers. I'll give that a shot next batch I make, but first I need to get more Lye.

Rebatching M&P bars with my soap bars?

The bubblegum soap sounds like a fun idea, and a fun first project to making multi color soap bars. To this point I have only ever made practical and plain soaps. Now that I have a recipe that I like, I'm ready to start making my soaps look nice and fun. I see videos of people mixing soaps in...

Rebatching M&P bars with my soap bars?

I received a bunch of melt and pour bars for Christmas but they just don't have any lather, so I wanted to mix them with my recipe so they are more desirable to my preference. Would there be any issues with Melting it and adding it to my soap bar recipe after my recipe reaches trace?

    First ever bath bomb

You know I didn't even think of looking there. No need to dig. I'll do the digging, I'll probably pick up some good info along the way. Thanks.

That was a great read. Thank you.

    Dos

Oh ,that's what you call those. I have some that appeared on a batch of pure OO soap that I made. Is it still safe to use? *Edited to fix autocorrect*

    First ever bath bomb

I would be interested in trying to make these. Are you by chance willing to share your recipe?

    Dos

Can someone please explain this a deviation that I see used on occasion. It doesn't seem to come up with a search. I'm at a bit of a loss. Thamks

White stuff on top of my soaps

I've found on every batch of soap that I make there is a white residue that forms. I understand that it is only a cosmetic flaw but does anyone know how I can avoid this or reduce the chance of it happening? Thanks.

Glycerine dye used in Lye based soap

Great info thanks! Sounds like I will not be filling my house with toxic fumes. I'm not too concerned if the colors change, it's all for personal use. My biggest problem right now is that I can not see my dye free bars against the bathtub floor when I drop the soap, that sounds so petty when I...

Glycerine dye used in Lye based soap

This is a picture of the dyes. It looks like it is mica mixed into glycerine and food coloring also?

Glycerine dye used in Lye based soap

I was just curious, because I bought the wrong dye and don't want to drive back and return it, what would happen if I used glycerine due in a batch of my lye based soap? I've read not to do it but haven't found an answer on why I should not do it. Are we talking insolubility or are we talking...

    Dream ingredients?

I've always wanted to experiment with motor oil. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about the synthetic crap all the new vehicles are using now and I'm not talking about that crude garbage that dumps out of the ships in the tropical seas. I'm talking about a good quality organically refined...
