Entry Thread for the SMF May 2023 Challenge - Spoon or Spatula Swirl

This is my first batch of soap in probably 3 years, I've been crazy busy and focused on other things! OMG it felt so good to make it :) I cut it a bit too early so the cut isn't the cleanest :( I poured 3 layers 1st - colored with silk stockings from Just Pigments, 2nd layer was Turquoise also...

Sign up list: 1. Servant4Christ 2. The_Phoenix - A spoonful of soap makes the grime go down the drain. 3. AliOop - This is my go-to rescue technique for those suddenly-thick batters. Ya never know how it will look but it's usually pretty! 4. dmcgee5034 - spoon swirl-tastic! Never done this one...

Absolutely no need to be sorry, it was fun to try it :)

    Discouraged

Making soap for about 8 years now and yes, the first couple were all about finding what worked for me and what didn't! Heck that still happens now and then when tinkering with new ideas/recipes! You can do this, don't give up yet :)

How long does your soap last?

Mine last on average 3 to 4 weeks after a 4 week cure - this is with Hubby and myself using them at least 1 time a day. My recipes average between 25% and 30% palmitic acid + stearic acid I just put 2 new bars in the shower yesterday and I'll be good for a couple months, so long in fact that...

What soapy thing have you done today?

HAHAHAHA We work in a restaurant so I RARELY cook at home and we live in FL which means when we do cook at home it's outside on the grill. So yeah, my kitchen has been the "soap room" for months, but hubby has been itching to remodel - new flooring, new appliances...which includes a DISHWASHER...

    Thoughts on labels?

Ahhh, ok, I've always been under the impression that we must use what goes IN the pot vs what comes out of it! thank you both for clearing that up :)

    Thoughts on labels?

I was under the impression that in the US we always have to include sodium hydroxide. We label with the ingredients used to make the soap, not what's left in the soap when completed.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I rendered some tallow and I accepted defeat and moved all my soapy stuff out of the kitchen and into my craft room. I fought the good fight, tried to keep as much of it in the kitchen as possible but when hubby said " I can't remodel the kitchen with all this soap stuff in it" I got the hint...

    Liquid soap with NaOH???

It's now completely cooled and is the consistency of a very firm gelatin. I just don't know where to go from here. I guess I'll just keep adding water and see what happens. I definitely call this experiment a fail and just can't see how anyone is getting a usable liquid soap this way. I'm...

    Liquid soap with NaOH???

Well it's back to snot again, as soon as it cools it's snot. I can not believe this is actually working for liquid soap unless it's the consistency of water in the end.

    Liquid soap with NaOH???

Wide mouth jars maybe if it's stiff enough?

    Liquid soap with NaOH???

After turning the crock back on and adding the water, within 15 minutes it was liquid again. No chunks at all. Going to let it cool again and see what happens. If it's a gelatinous mess again I'm not sure if I'll try whipping it with the mixer or add more water just to see how much it takes to...
