    Rancid oils and butters

I have been cleaning and found a box that has been sitting for more than 5 years. It has rancid palm oil ( about 3 pounds) , rancid almond oil ( about 1 pound), rancid shortening ( about 2 pounds) and about 10 pounds of coconut oil that amazingly does not smell rancid! I also have 1 pound castor...

    Water percentage

Just to clarify: We are not changing the amount of NaOH, this is always constant ( since it depends on the Saponification values for the oils), What we are doing is only changing the amount of water. Each one of us prefers a certain concentration ( within the range). This is why we end up with...

    Water percentage

My two cents: SoapCalc of Water as % of oils??? The Percentage is used to express the amount of anything in the "whole thing" . In this case water is not part of the total, as it only calculates the amount of water divided by the total mass of oils ( only the oils). I can't think why they are...

What the heck? Blob of zap.

If you used half the water, that means you used (0.5*0.75)=0.375 of the water to dissolve the lye, that means your lye solution is (0.25/(0.25+0.375))=0.4 which is 40% Lye (not realy 25%) since you did not add the carrot juice to the lye/water.

    Too much EO

Oh thank you Deda, I am flattered... P.S I love your lotion, the best lotion for my "super" sensitive skin

    Too much EO

1oz per 2lb is (1/(32))*100%=3.12% (fo per oil) not taking into consideration lye and water. if you have used 4 oz lye (7% discount) and 12 oz water (full recommended) then the percentage of Fo in your soap patch will be (1/(1+32+4+12)*100%=2%
