    Embossed rolling pins

I wonder if you could wrap silicone around the pin to make an embossing mat. ... I'm sure you could also buy embossing mats but I think there's just something about such a pretty rolling pin! Definitely want to try it with soap dough :)

Soap workspace - advice? Must haves?

Here is my workspace (after soaping... I've run out of gloves so can't finish cleaning up just yet!) and my storage space. We moved in a few months ago and I haven't gotten it organised yet... Thought before I started I would jump on here for advice! The laundry (workspace) is working fairly...

Soap workspace - advice? Must haves?

Thanks!! I did think when I read AKjulz saying she got her benches from a closed down gas station that I should look for some closing down sales around me when (if) it comes time to furnish my studio. My cousin is a chef so he may have some helpful contacts too. Hello, Just posting an update...

Soap workspace - advice? Must haves?

Ooooh thanks for that advice! So helpful finding people who have done it (a build) before. A lot of plans we have looked at have the laundry immediately behind the garage, which makes it easy to add the space there - I was imagining the workspace at the back of the garage. I will keep this...

Soap workspace - advice? Must haves?

Could end up being cheaper... I will investigate. Advantage (in my mind) of extending the garage is that we can just have the space put in, and plumbing and electrical points put in the build the bench etc later on. In the laundry, as it will be functioning as a laundry, I would want all the...

    Australian Essential Oil Supplier

I’ve bought from escentials, and been happy... however I have no other oils to compare to!! I haven’t bought different types from different places. So I can’t say for a fact that they are good quality, but as I said, I’ve been happy. Some oils have “gone off” (I think... I think they smell...

Soap workspace - advice? Must haves?

Thanks everyone!! I’ve been reading but haven’t gotten onto my computer to type a proper reply yet! I’m sure I will run out of space no matter what. Currently my storage works ok it’s just that it is in an upstairs bedroom so I have to lug everything downstairs to soap, take over the kitchen...

Soap workspace - advice? Must haves?

Hello, I hope I've put this in the right place! We are thinking of building a house next year, and there's an option to make the garage a bit longer to add a workspace in the back. I am thinking about how best to utilise this for my soap King space... So far, I would ask for a sink to be...

    Stearic spots or air bubbles?

Poked them with a skewer. They seemed to "collapse" but then I poked the soap around it, and it was just as soft. No lye - zap tested thoroughly. The red and green don't have any TD in them. I sliced with a blade, but seem to get these regardless. I soaped fairly warm - didn't measure the...

    Stearic spots or air bubbles?

Do these dots look like stearic spots or air bubbles? The recipe is Susies lard recipe - 55% lard, 20% olive oil, 20% coconut and 5% castor. My oils were warmer than usual (usually room temp) to try and avoid these spots... so the batter thickened up quite quickly, which is why I'm wondering...

    Christmas 2017

I shouldn't complain as I only make two batches to give to family - I don't sell. But I feel like I need to make something new each year. I'm quite out of practice though so having trouble getting colours right. Obviously I just need to make more soap

    Christmas 2017

:headbanging: I am feeling very uninspired with my Christmas soaps this year. I don't like to make frosty type ones (blues, snowflakes) given Australian Christmas is the opposite. Anyone else feel that way? I want to get some gumnut moulds (or gumnut to make my own) and try something with...

    Skin care for babies

I don't have kids but the Weleda range has been highly recommended by friends with babies. This link goes to a chart (I hope) which shows all their products in the mother and baby line, so hopefully that may give you some ideas! http://www.weleda.com.au/selecting-the-right-products/w1/i1180955/...

Help with a tag for my coal soap!

Thanks!! Pics to come - heaps of soda ash so I washed them all last night. I'm not sure how I will wrap these bars either - normally I just use a shrink wrap band but it's not going to work around the lump! I've been away for a month so am quite behind with my soap gifts this year, I'm not...

Help with a tag for my coal soap!

For Christmas this year i made lumps of coal salt bars. I usually send these as gifts for Grandparents/Aunty etc... - extended family. So I don't want to tag them with 'uh oh you've been naughty' or something like that. So I am trying to find a nice little poem or rhyme or something to...

SMF January Challenge Black and White

The design (of my entry) was inspired by this: http://theartmad.com/wp-content/uploads/Black-And-White-Abstract-Wallpaper-Designs-5.jpg Ideally I would have had a small, round item (like a straw but slightly bigger) to pour my contrasting colour in, then pulled the colour out. But I couldn't...

SMF January Challenge Entry Thread - Black and White

Here's mine, made today so unmoulded still a bit soft (should have left it in the oven longer)! Coloured with titanium dioxide and activated charcoal. Used a large amount of lard, plus some canola, olive, coconut and castor.

SMF January Challenge Black and White

So time definitely got away from me, but I have two soaps in moulds, poured this morning - hopefully I can get them cut in time. If not, oh well. My first attempt did not work out how I intended - pattern wise, as well as a dark grey/light grey instead of black and white. But I had a play...
