    Trash bag lining=plastic smelling soap!

Just something I learned in my quest for an easy lining method- but I used a big regular sized trash bag to line the soap mold with-big mistake! not only did my soap have horrible wrinkles, naturally, but it had a really nasty plastic smell to it in the shower. I initially thought it was the...

Substituting Canola or Soybean oil for OO?

I'm trying for an economical soap batch, from your experience which has the longer shelf life in cp soap- canola or soybean?? About how long do the bars last??? Obviously it's not an issue if you use the soap immediately, but in hoping to sell- here's my economy bar recipe- Lard 30 percent...

    Poll: Colorants

I like the sample pack from wsp. You can try different oxides and pick the ones you like best. One tip for working with pigments is to add a TB or so of td to the oils before mixing lye. Colors pop that way... I also like BB electric bubblegum. Oh, and I've learned to use just a few...

Beer soap, what beer to use?

Hi all! For those with experience with beer soaps, I'm going to make my first batch. I know the beer has to sit out and get flat prior to use... What beer is best?? What percentage to lye? Can I replace all my water with it and mix the lye in directly?? Or add at trace? What FO works...

    First linear swirl!!!

Thanks all!!! Heres the colors I added: 1.5 titanium dioxide to the oils before adding the lye (a little trick I just learned) 1 tsp black oxide to about a cup of the batch 1 tsp matte green oxide 1 tsp matte green oxide with 1 tsp titanium dioxide with 1 tsp neon lemon yellow oxide -the...

    First linear swirl!!!

So here is my first linear swirl... I've done them before, but always varied my lines and it didn't render the same effect. Here, I was sure to put each color in separate areas of the top- makes it much better!! Soap queen. Com has YouTube examples

    Soap won't harden!

I would just give it more time....if its in a silicon mold, that could take more than a week in the mold. Also, the weather can affect the soap-springtime=rainy times over here in the derby city

    Muted colors in some soaps-why??

yes, they are two different FO's...I think I'm hanging up my hat when it comes to adding milk ;( the first few batches didn't dissolve the lye thoroughly....then this one above left I added 1/2 the lye water as milk at trace and it sure did accelerate!! I am wondering if milk even makes a...

    Check out my sexy ASH!

Ouch! spilling an entire batch of raw soap-that's a MAJOR bummer for so many reasons. Good luck on the rebatch!!

    Muted colors in some soaps-why??

wondering why the same oxides give such different results? The soap on the right is bubblegum, the white part faded to brown but rest of the colors stayed neon...the left soap is monkey farts. Both have vanillin in the FO, gelled the left soap, 1/2 milk... Otherwise recipes are about the same. I...

    I'm new & I'm lost HELP!!!

It helps when you're new to watch as many youtube videos of others making soap- you can see how they progress through each step. For me, I learned that I was overmixing with the stick blender (SB) to reach trace. Just ensure you have the proper basic equipment, and read as much as you can...

    Glass Adhesion problems

Does anybody know how to prevent or mitigate separation from the glass of soy candles?? I can't recall the soy type, it's middle of the road priced, no additives. Poured at 110 or so.. Would stearic acid help? Thanks!

    Castor Oil at 15%

Thanks guys!!!! I figured as much...so I'll keep tweaking the recipe and definitely drop the castor to 10%...probably superfat at 8%--its all a learning game...unfortunately we have to wait so long to use the bars that my lack of patience gets the better of me when trying to find my perfect...

    Castor Oil at 15%

Okay, so I haven't been soaping for a few months, Christmas soaps/shows wore me out!!!, but I'm back to soaping, which means in turn, I'm back to learning from all of you again ;) I am tweaking my recipe and am up to 15% castor and the soap is okay except its rather sticky/wet in the mold even...
