    CP Soap in decorative molds?

I have used sillicone molds to make flower-soaps and leave-soaps, mixed results. It did work, some of the finer detail in the leaves got a few cracks - could I remedy that with mineral oil? I don't have mineral oil, but would vaseline (the pure stuff) work?

    using Essential Oils for scents

With the first bars of soap I made I also measured my EO in drops, like I did when making perfume. One drop in a burner scents an entire room, so why not? Turns out you actually need a ton of oil, like an entire bottle (the small 5ml ones you'd get in a health store, for example) for a couple of...

What Activated Charcoal Do You Use?

Barbeque charcoal (the 'pure' stuff, yes, basically just burned up wood) is mostly carbon too, right, because the wood itself is mostly carbon and everything else burns up. But I understand how it can be less pure, it can have all kinds of trace elements in there. The 'activating' part is just...

What Activated Charcoal Do You Use?

This may be a dumb question, but couldn't you just use the charcoal things for barbecues and smash that up?

I tried making massage bars with chocolate...

Wow nice! It looks like those seafruit chocolates. (you know, these ones, don't know if they have them everywhere: Are there actual chocolate pieces inside? You'd have to wash after using those, but I could also see the fun possibilities... :-P

    Cold weather soaping

63 isn't extreme, should work just fine... My house is anywhere between 16 and 20 degrees C (63 F is 17.2 C) usually, and it doesn't matter much. I soap before my oils have cooled to room temperature, though.

    Dream ingredients?

I would love some almond oil and jojoba oil! Also ALL of the essential oils. All of them. And some nice fragrance oils too, why not. And clay!

    Share your regionally themed soap

As I'm Dutch, maybe I should do a hemp oil soap :p Or tulip soap, to experiment with pretty bright colours.

    Any name suggestions?

I was going to say that! It's the colour scheme combined with the swirliness, I think. Would also be cool to do a soap with a swirl like this...

    Adding Sulfur to soap

Adding acids won't do a thing, it will just react with the lye and make the soap seem like you used a lower % of lye. (don't know about the sulphur and what it would do).

    My Bath Cocktail.

That looks cool! Shame I don't have a bath... Is this single-use, or is that amount of salts enough for multiple baths?

    face cream for dry skin

I assume by plantain you mean Plantago major and not some kind of banana (that came up on google)? It's called weegbree where I live, and yes it's amazing stuff! I use it for stinging nettle burns, though I have never used it in a salve. I've heard that coconut can cause acne. I don't have bad...

    face cream for dry skin

Thanks for the replies! Soapsydaisy: there's no water in this one, so I wouldn't actually need an emulsifier, right? (the tea is steeped into the oils, not in water). And because there is no preservative I would just make a small batch. Again, no water, so it spoils later. SugarandOats: I'll...

    face cream for dry skin

Hello everyone, I have really dry skin, to the point of flaking and redness. I've used some daycreams in the past, but all of them only made the problem worse after a while. I think I'm probably sensitive to something in them. Right now I sometimes use vaseline (the pure petroleum jelly) but...

    Christmas 2013

I haven't decided who gets one yet, so I'm just making some... I guess around 30 (pieces of soap, by the way, not bars... I make small batches!)

    Christmas 2013

And to imagine I'm in the Netherlands and need my soaps ready for Sinterklaas if I'm going to give them away... this is the 5th of december. I have six soaps ready now :p

Newb question on temperatures of vegetal only soaps

Oil properties do change when you heat them, but not that much, especially not at these kinds of temperatures... If you fry in vegetable oils they become more and more saturated, but that takes time. Even if the oils are slightly more saturated, it doesn't affect SAP value. That is calculated by...

    How long in the mould

I think it's usually 24 hours, but it depends on the recipe too, sometimes it needs to be longer. If you need to press hard to make a dent I guess you could take it out... As long as it stays in its shape I'd say you're good to go!

What can I use in place of palm products?

I am mainly posting in this thread so I can see it in 'my replies' because I don't have much to add except that I agree with most of you. I don't use palm because I don't have to, and there's a lot of indicators that it's bad. If it was a staple food for me or something I might still use it, but...

    Help with multiple EO batch

I don't know, it seems like a lot to me! That's almost 50 ml... it's a big batch of soap, too, but still. (but I've only made one soap with EO yet and I measured them in drops, so don't look at me, really)
