My first shaving soap is a success!

Question My husband has a coworker that wants me to make up a shaving soap and I have tossed around the idea for a while but never knew anyone who would use it. My question is a simple one, does this soap turn hard like a CP soap or does it stay soft? He also asked about a shaving cream but I...

Citric acid in a shampoo bar

Good to know about it helping with hard water. When would I add it to my soap, with the lye mixture or at trace? Would I be able to drop the SF percent in soapcalc to 1% and still be okay without having to add too much more lye? I'm afraid of having it come out lye heavy.

Citric acid in a shampoo bar

For those who may have used citric acid to lower the ph of a shampoo bar, has it really helped? If so how much would one use ppo? I had a friend ask me to make her some shampoo bars so I've been looking into different ways to make it and I like the idea of lowering the ph since both her and I...

    Body and room spray preservative

I should have also mentioned that this is for a 2 oz bottle, very little is actually water.

    Fall scents

I thought of that after I had already cut the bars :P Oh well, I do have a soap planer so I'll be able to clean them up.

    Fall scents

It could have been the oils and amounts I used too, not the puree itself. I have about a hand full of recipes that I like so I stick to using those unless someone has an allergy, then I'll work with something different.

    Fall scents

In last years batch I did but I found it to be drying so I opted not to use it this year.

    Body and room spray preservative

For my body sprays I've used this formula: Add 1/2 teaspoon vodka, 1/2 teaspoon aloe vera gel , 1/2 teaspoon glycerin, 1/2 teaspoon witch hazel extract, fill the bottle up with distilled water. After I shake it I'll add drops of EO or FO and shake again. I have a test bottle that I have been...

    Fall scents

Oh how I love fall scents! I whipped up my pumpkin pie soap a few days ago and my soap drying closet smells amazing :D I've been known to stick my head in and take a big sniff now and again lol!

    Veins in my soap

Thanks for the info. Fortunately most of my friend and family don't mind the veins, I'm just picky lol. I'll have to make notes because I've only noticed it with certain fragrances so those I'll have to prevent from overheating. I didn't think I was insulating too much since I put my molds in...

    Veins in my soap

So I've noticed in several of my soaps now clear veins in my soaps with several different recipes. I tend to soap around 110 degrees on all my soaps so I'm not sure what's causing it.

    Storing you soap

Seems like I need to buy more plastic containers so I can keep my scents separate:-|

    Some new soaps

Oh well, now I know to look into that first :D

    Some new soaps

I used poppy seeds in the soap to give it a strawberry look. As far as the purple, I used crafter's choice matte purple powder. I put some in a bit of sweet almond oil to break up the clumps but it didn't turn out purple. Here's a picture after I cut it.

    Some new soaps

I've been fairly busy at work with the holidays coming up but I have had a few chances to make soap. The red one is my strawberry preserves just after pouring and then cut. The green and grey, it was supposed to be purple but for some reason it stayed grey, is a lavender peppermint that I made...

    It's not soap but...

Thanks!! My hubby was surprised with what I did since it took me all of an hour tops from planning, hauling my portable table saw and wood out of the basement and going to the hardware store to pick up the right sized nails. What makes it even better is I did most of it before he was even out...

    It's not soap but...

Lol, it's okay. My batter this time around was thinner than my last batch and there was more crumbling with this one so I'm sure I did something different, just not sure what. I only use about 50% salt where most people use 100% salt so I can see why it would get fairly thick.

    It's not soap but...

Here are the lemongrass salt bars after cutting them with my new rig. The gap still allows for a little wiggle room so I have to make sure not to tilt the blade or they'll still come out a little crooked.

    It's not soap but...

Thanks! I used one mold to make a batch of salt bars today and used the cutter as well. I'll post pictures later once I'm done watching the Broncos game.

    It's not soap but...

So I got tired of waiting to make more than one batch of soap due to only having one loaf mold so... I woke up this morning and set up my portable table saw, grabbed some scrap wood, drew up some plans and made two loaf molds. Each one is three inches wide and three inches tall. And since I...
