    Best First Soap Recipe/Project?

If you were going to tech someone else to make soap what would you suggest for a type and recipe? I've been asked to give a frugal series to local senior citizens and just can't decide what would be best.

    Labeling 2 oz Tins

I've used mostly avery labels for my products from the start. I can use (abuse really) the laser printer at work to print them out in color even so I've worked hard to find containers/labels that work well enough together I'm happy.

    Differences in Soy Wax Brands

I've been making soy candles and melts for three years now for personal and reselling purposes. I've bought quite a few different waxes in this time and find there can be a big difference in price, quality and other characteristics of the waxes. My favorite is by Cargill, some of the worst...

OK this is driving me NUTS!

Hawkings is the guy. I was just watching an episode of the Simpsons maybe with him on it explaining the issue. He's really an interesting guy.

    Re Born Candle Maker

Its a disease I swear. And I mean unless you just look at our candles you have to keep making more because they simply combust away, lol.

    My first Salt Bars failed!

These sound like a fun thing to try out. I've got to come up with something new before the holidays or my family will be disappointed with their gift baskets.

    Need help in a hurry!!

You'll want to add more blue and yellow. Red+green makes brown. You've used blue and yellow to make green then added red, but if it turned mauve you've got not enough yellow to make it green enough to go brown instead of the pinky/purple color. Good luck.

    Cheap Floating Molds

Anything can be had cheaply from Ebay with patience, although prices aren't what they used to be. I've never done floaters myself.

    goat's milk soap confiscated

I know my dad always used to carry on any gifts for us back in the 80's but I would think its the absolute lowest to steal from the troops. Even if you disagree with the war there's no excuse.

    Aztec International

I've had decent luck finding a semi-local supplier who only charges me $4 for Handling on my orders compared to shipping and handling and I drive about 35mins to pick it up. My other favorite thing to do is bulk buy with a few other local crafters and get together for lunch and split it up...

    Tin Containers

I collect tins from candles from friends when they finish all the time (along with the glass ones). The only problem I have found so far is not all tins are proper for holding a liquid. Some are made from a bottom and sides which are welded together and not always leak proof. Nothing a quick...

A must read for first time candlemakers.....

Thats a rather interesting site. Nothing about soy though and the "other waxes" hasn't been translated from French yet (and its a bit early to try and do it in my head). The other info seems good though. Great share.

    Doubleboiler Again !

Try asking your friends. When I first started with paraffin wax candles I was shocked at the price of a decent double boiler (and knew better then to buy cheap) and mentioned it to a couple friends. I had a quality double boiler in under a week from a friend who got a FULL set of pots and pans...

    Calculating burn time

lol, I prefer the burn it on the weekend and set the stop watch method. ;) This will work well for times when I'm running short on time though. Thanks.

    Homemade Molds

Never thought of using PVC pipe for molds. I've been thinking of making some of my own embed molds but the material used to make them is a bit expensive to play around with.

    US Scented Candle Study

Having a background in chemistry I would love to know what exactly they used for candles, wicks, scent, etc. many non soy candles are wicked with lead wicks to give it stiffness and of course contributes to toxins in the smoke released. Any good soy candle has an all cotton wick, preferable...

Candle making - Soy Wax vs. Paraffin ?

I came to soy through the purchase of a very well made soy melt product and tealights to match. Which I absolutely fell in love with. Not all soy is made the same the same way you know a cheap paraffin candle is not going to burn the same as a well made one. Its not easy and takes some learning...

    Plastic Tealight cups. HELP!

I had just the opposite problem when I ordered my first set of tealight materials. My tabs are all teeny compared to the indents. Which was even more fun when I tried to make some larger candles with them. They really need to code them small, medium, large or something to make it easier.

    All natural candles

All-natural candles made from soy wax are increasingly popular. However remember that using a lead wick, or non essential oils changes the naturalness of the candle. We don't often associate scents, colors and wicks as non-natural but many of them are. Wicks are bleached using chemicals, have...

    nearly genius wick holder...

I use popsicle sticks/tongue depressors as well. The husband feels all manly making holes in them without shredding the cheap wood. he spent almost an hour picking the right size drill bit the first time.
