Aloe Vera powder in a body butter

Hi everyone, This is my first time making a body butter and I was wondering if I could add some aloe vera powder in it. My butter consists of cocoa and shea butters, plus jojoba and sweet almond oils with some vitamin e. All the sites said that it is water soluble, but I would really like...

    Avocado Oil @ Costco

Thought I pass on some great news. I bought a 34 oz. bottle of avocado oil at Costco yesterday for $8.89! This is the first time I've seen it there and hopefully not the last.

Hemp milk saponifying when lye is added

How can I prevent the frozen hemp milk from saponifying when I add the lye? I add the lye very slowly to the frozen milk, and I have to strain it thru a fine wire strainer before adding it to my oils. It's a big mess and a real time waster.

    Lumpy Bumpy Bath Bombs

So I tried my hand at bath bombs for the 1st time. I got the right texture and formed them using a meatball maker. They were a thing of beauty, perfectly round, hard and not a crack in sight. So I put them in the dining room and started on my soap. Checked back with them a 1/2 hr. later and...

    Hemp Oil Question

I just got my shipment and boy is hemp oil green! I've done a search and found out that I need to keep it under 10-15%. Also found out that it has a very short shelf life 30 days, so it's in the freezer! What I didn't find the answer to is how the green affects the overall color of the base...

    Mold Measures

Hi All! I'm very confused about the measurements of my new crafter's choice silicone mold #1501. The website said that it will hold 40-44 ozs. I made a 44 oz batch intending to use one mold. I ended up using both molds and filled the molds almost to the top. I only used 1 oz of FO, 1 tbsp of...

    Dreaming of soap

I think I have crossed the line to addiction. I've had two dreams with soap so far this week. Dream #1 - the bastile soap I made separated in the mold. I got up at 3 am to check on it and of course it was fine. Nuts! Dream #2 - The mafia was preventing the import of raw soap materials...

Castile for the New Year anyone?

Several people have stated that they will be making castile soap at the end of the year. I'm joining the bandwagon and making some today. However, I will be adding 5% castor...a girl needs some bubbles! Okay, alright I'll call it bastile then! Who will join me!

    Using cornsilk powder in soap

Hi everyone! Now that I have given away ALL my soap as Christmas presents I need to make more. Yay! I was looking through my stash trying to use up what I have and I came across some cornsilk powder. I have not used it and vaguely remember reading that it makes a difference in the soap's...

    Shea Butter Percentages

Excitedly awaiting my first shipment of shea butter from BB. This is the first time I will be adding it to my base soap recipe of 25% CO, 40% OO, 30% Palm and 3% Castor. Just wanted some feedback as the percentages that everyone uses. Thanks!

Questions on 1st batch of HP

Hi everyone! Very excited today since I'm attempting my 1st batch of HP. This is my recipe: Superfatting with sunflower & vitamin e 80/20 ratio. This will be a rosemary soap. I've infused the OO and made a tea for the lye water. I'll be adding a tsp. of ground rosemary. The rosemary...

Calculating goat milk fat on Soapcalc

I'm using all goat milk instead of water in my recipe. How do I determine the fat % on soapcalc? Do I just put in my ounces of liquid? That doesn't seem right to me because we are talking about fat not liquid...I'm so confused. Thanks!

    Just weird or what???!!!

I've been surfing the web all morning on how to make HP. I came across two weird tutorials one that is using Wilton frosting coloring and another using crayons to color their soaps. Has anyone heard of this before? Sounds like the frosting coloring would come thru the lather and the crayons...

    Valuable lessons from 1st batch

    1. Soaping is not as easy as it looks 2. Maybe stacked plastic pepsi cola racks lined with paper towels don't allow for enough airflow 3. Don't use canola oil 4. Don't make 6 lb batches (now I have a 2 lb mold) 5. Soapcalc is your best friend 6. And DOS does happen! Oh the joys...

    Newbie question

Hi everyone! I made my first batch of soap on Thursday. It set up well, I cut, unmolded it and no problems. Now I see a thin lighter layer on the top. The rest of the soap is nice and creamy. I used an veggie oil mixture, with tea tree and vitamin e oils. What is this layer and can I just...

    Hello from South Florida

Hi everyone! I'm new to soaping. Just made my first batch on Thursday. I started making soap as a fundraiser for our school's organic veggie garden. We were funded for the last 3 years, but now I want it to be self sufficient. I'll be using the herbs from the garden in my soap. Including...
