    Uncommon Saponified Oils

@coconutoliveallergyp did you try the rice flour and rose water? I understand what you're saying about not feeling totally clean just using water. That's why I like the flours for cleansing, you get that scrubby feeling, which can be adjusted by the coarseness of the flour. If you react with...

    Distilled water shortage??

@earlene thanks for the explanation. I only noticed the differences in prices between water and sodas sold, as I figured the soda had sugar in them, which should have made it more expensive. Not all of the waters sold are distilled either. Water rights have been highlighted in the last couple...

    CBD Soap?

HaHa, yeah, the whole bloody referendum was a balls up. Medical cannabis is so expensive, I am using the CBD, which is non-psychoactive, the Doctor quoted $450 a month! At least if the referendum passed I could have tried growing my own. I was kind of expecting customs to turn up on my...

    CBD Soap?

Unfortunately the smell doesn't survive the moisturiser making process. I even infused my own rose petals into the oil I used and that didn't work either. 😞

    CBD Soap?

@cmzaha how fascinating! New Zealand recently said no to recreational cannabis but has allowed its medical use. Unfortunately it’s made the medicinal side super expensive. I have a prescription for CBD, but I sourced the isolate from the USA, way cheaper, but illegal to do so. The things we do...

    CBD Soap?

@Janewoc17 yep, there’s a real thrill in learning new things and soap making is such a huge subject. Clay gives a lovely slip to soap and great as a natural colorant too. Have you tried rose hydrosol to replace your “water phase” when making your cream? To me rose hydrosol is the closest I’ve...

    Distilled water shortage??

@KiwiMoose I know when we went through the Christchurch Earthquakes, there was certainly bottled water shortages then, but we bought a generator so we could pump our own water, we had animals to think about too. I think we are still in apocalypse mode, my pantry is certainly stocked more now...

    Uncommon Saponified Oils

@coconutoliveallergyp I absolutely love rose hydrosol, I use it as a cleanser/toner for my face. Yes, soap making is rather scary when you first start, but it can be addictive. I usually use my nose when it comes to rancidity, it might be better to buy small batches of grapeseed oil to make...

    Favorite Essential Oil Suppliers

I use these guys, (av-at.com) very high quality which I use for their therapeutic action, but they might be too expensive for soap

Feedback on my first facial soap recipe...

I'm with you. I use rose hydrosol as cleanser/toner and jojoba oil with added essential oils. That's my whole beauty routine. I am thankful for family genetics that make me look young, though migraines are giving me wrinkles! @FragranceGuy I'm sure you could put a spin on pig lard, closest...

    Recipe to soft for molds?

I love rose water but I personally wouldn't use it in soap, the rose aroma doesn't make it past saponification. I agree with @The_Phoenix about the "rose oil", sounds like your culprit.

    Distilled water shortage??

I've never used distilled water. We have our own water well, I might get a bit more soda ash and I don't have issues with DOS so far, touch wood. Am I correct in thinking that water to the tap in the USA has to conform to a certain standard but bottled water doesn't? Is bottled/distilled...

Failed Turquoise (which I then rebranded to cobble stone) Soap

Love the colours, no one would guess that wasn't what you were going for ;)

    Uncommon Saponified Oils

I am sorry to hear about the skin issues you have to deal with. Have you tried other products besides soap? I went through a phase of using powders to cleanse myself, but I do like my scrubby ingredients. I've used rice flour mixed with water or could could add a hydrosol like rose instead...

    Colorants, molds and succulents

I think we are our own harshest critics. I think you nailed the colours. I'm sure everyone is going to have a great time and appreciate the effort you've gone to

    CBD Soap?

@Janewoc17 I was thinking more of the total % of dried herb within the soap, which I imagine would be very low. Do you infuse the flowers in your oil or add them to the soap mix? I can feel the difference in the soap with butters and I imagine milks would be the same with their high fat...

    Lavender essential oil

I didn't realise that Soapcalc uses a lower % than other calculators. What % do you use?

    CBD Soap?

@Zany_in_CO My problem with articles like that is that they are quoting therapeutic effects of the dried herb E.g. “Rose petals contain a lot of Vitamin C, which is also beneficial to the skin”. Vitamin C is destroyed by heat. This article is talking about adding the dried herb to the soap...

    Lavender essential oil

I’ve entered your oil proportions in soapcalc and it comes out to 21.48g essential oil. I have to admit that the lavender aroma fades very quickly in cold process soap, which is maybe why the bramble berry calculator has a higher percentage.

    Lost in lotion bars

I've been playing around with proportions for my bars, which have 30% essential oils for musculo-skeletal conditions. They are poured into little stick containers so they can be rubbed onto the area without being absorbed into the hands. I'm happy on the feel, I would just like the recipe to be...
