    Lard and Tallow

I actually use the PKO to offset the drying nature of the coconut oil. I've tried the recipe without it and I just didn't get the feel I wanted. I know, my recipe is more complicated than most but I've tinkered with it quite a bit to get what I wanted from my soap.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Well it's being very inconvenient now. I ordered a brace for it and for now am just trying not to move my hand and wrist to aggravate it. This getting old thing sucks. I turned 46 on the 11th and now I'm falling apart. lol

What soapy thing have you done today?

Apparently it's De Quervain's tenosynovitis. Which also has no known cause. Ridiculous rreally. And I have so much soaping I need to do. I want to get a start on next year's inventory,

    Lard and Tallow

So another question, is there any combination of other oils that don't work well with the lard or tallow? My preferred soap recipe is a bit complicated. I know I know I should simplify it but when it comes to the properties I wanted I played with recipes for more than 10 years to get just the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I printed a million and a half labels and labeled and wrapped soap but it's taking me forever because I've somehow injured my wrist. Apparently just moving at my age causes injury. I was reaching for my tea and somehow my wrist went "POP" and now I can't use it very well. So I'm stuck not...

    Lard and Tallow

I boycott walmart so that won't work for me but I will look around for something similar.

    Daughter-in-law is making candles

Bees wax isn't known for throwing scent well, which means you’ll have to use a lot of essential oils in your candles which isn't always cost effective. You may have to use 20-30 drops of essential oil to about 8oz of beeswax. You may want to look a a candle friendly lavender fragrance oil instead.

    Lard and Tallow

So I've been thinking about adding lard and tallow to one of my recipes and seeing how it performs. I found lard for $1/lb at my local grocery so I bought a bunch of it mainly to make pie crusts but since I have plenty left over in my freezer I figured why not use it in soap. I can't seem to...

    Soap Curing Racks

My bars are 3" tall so they fit just fine but for my hightops I just turn them on their side so they will fit. If you are looking for a taller rack they have bakery racks that are 6" tall. Orbis NPL640 26" x 22" x 6" Customizable Blue Bakery Bread Tray / Bread Rack

    Soap Curing Racks

Glad you found them useful. I needed something more easily picked up. The full soap racks when full of soap were just really too heavy for me to move on my own. These flatware racks hold one full batch of soap for me so I can label the rack with the fragrance and date easily. I just ordered 10 more.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I cut my third batch of oatmeal milk and honey. This batch got really hot probably because I've been doing a 50% water discount. The sugars in the honey burned but goodness the scent it actually amazing. It smells like a rich caramel. I don't add fragrance to this soap because it's one of my top...

    Naming your soaps

I do both. Some are named after the fragrance and others I make up a name.

    Toddler crayons

I wouldn't worry about the fragrances carrying over. Scented crayons were a thing back in the day.

    Salt Bars

Yeah I've tried that. Maybe I'm just using the wrong salt. lol I guess I will have to just pour into individual molds.

    Salt Bars

Is there a trick to prevent the salt from settling to the bottom of the bars? The last few batches I've made as test batches the salt just settles on the bottom and it's crumbly.

    Biodegradable Packaging

Can I just say I'm appalled at the exorbitant markup of biodegradable packaging? It's actually quite insane that companies are charging almost triple for carboard packaging. I was looking at doing lotion sticks but didn't want to use the plastic tubes and instead use cardboard tubes and they...

What soapy thing have you done today?

They are shipping me replacement perforated shrinkwrap but in the mean time I need to keep up with packaging or I will fall way behind so I'm just strategically melting holes in inconspicuous places.
