The recipe is high in candelilla wax, and so its a very brittle balm. BUT after you start using it, its no longer brittle..it becomes soft and creamy and looks/feels like a beeswax lip balm. can anyone tell me why this is the case? what is happening to it, and is there a way i can replicate...

thanks! tho its still not great...getting between a 10% and 20% failure rate still.....and the molds are terrible and require a TON of clean up work. it took WAY too long to make 300 lip balms. and i still have 700 more to make....300 more by monday.

cocoa butter is brittle, but not nearly as brittle as candelilla wax. its mostly the wax that is causing the trouble, but its the wax that makes it so nice. if i can get the tube poured so it doesnt crack, and twist it up and down and it doesnt crack, then its an amazing lip balm. less wax...

its not separated, its even throughout. and i fully melt it before pouring some off. it cools fairly quickly.

I added EO to the regular dilution of LS at 0.5% and it was not enough so i added more and i think i added 2%......which smells like the right amount of smell except the lemongrass ginger one is a bit strong.....i think lemongrass needs to be used at a lower % in LS....i find it really drying...

for those of you thinking you need poly cause your EO is floating on top of your soap......just heat the LS a bit (like hot tub hot) and the EO will mix right in. its never separated back out again on me. thats with me using 3% SF or less.

you dont need polysorbate to add EO ive done it many times without never had any oil separation issues except once when i over neutralized the issue was simply not enough water....the soap was just on the verge of being liquid. it seems strange that adding an oil would push it over the edge...

the reason i was asking is cause how the % feels in a super diluted liquid soap may be different than if its less diluted. but i will try it at 0.5%. its better to add too little than too much.

I sell, so i need to do what works best for other people. I have SUPER sensitive skin and usually never use soaps with EO. I will add it at 0.5% and if its not strong enough i can always add more.
