    Sequestering

    It's totally transparent today!

    Sequestering

Still calculates to about 35% soap to 65% water for final dilution as I only needed to add about a tsp more water to each quart. This paste was cooked at 25% lye concentration which is 3:1 water to lye. In the future, I'll be going back to my original method of cooking my paste at a 20% (4:1)...

    Sequestering

I figured it out! I had spilled a little soap on the outside of my jars and wiped them down but didn't rinse them or anything because my soap was still hot off the stove. So, I put them in the sink and cleaned the outside of my jars and the soap was less cloudy looking but still was not as clear...

    Sequestering

Mine did not zap and the clarity test was good. The recipe I used was similar to yours. 70 olive, 20 castor, 10 coconut. My first batch was thick and perfectly transparent and much easier/faster to dilute than this batch. This batch is getting clearer but just isn't as clear as my first batch...

    Sequestering

I went from 20% lye concentration to 25% and boy oh boy did that change the texture of the resulting paste. I didn't need as much dilution water for the paste made with more water in it, either. That batch was diluted to a 40% soap concentration and this one is about 35% if I'm calculating it...

    Sequestering

Thanks. I made LS last night and changed some things, but not the base recipe itself, which is mostly olive. This batch isn't as mild or thick as my last batch at all. I should've only changed one thing at a time, but I was impatient. Lol What I changed: 1. I added my glycerin to the paste...

    Sequestering

From what I've read, sequestering is done to help with transparency and allow any particles to settle out and such. Is that all sequestering is for? Does sequestering help make the diluted soap become milder kind of like the way that an extra long cure does for cold process salt bars?

What soapy thing have you done today?

I recently accidentally made a brick of soap that looks like cheddar cheese! That counts, right? 😂

    Dial gold fragrance dupe?

    Thanks. I'll go look

What soapy thing have you done today?

I now have 5lbs of rebatched soap setting in my mold until after the holiday weekend. It is an ugly but somewhat uniform shade of olive green and the scent is much more mellow and pleasant now that it is thoroughly incorporated into the full batch instead of just half the batch.

SMF May 2023 Challenge: Spoon or Spatula Swirl

Thanks. One of the bars reminds me of a silhouette of a tree from one of those Nature channel documentary programs. The others make me think of lava or fire and brimstone.

This definitely did not go as planned, but I followed the rules and the Dragon's blood won. 😂

I not a huge rebatch fan, either, but I don't want to make an even bigger loaf of soap than this already is by making Ciaglia or confetti. I would've accomplished a more uniform bar of ugliness, I suppose.

SMF May 2023 Challenge: Spoon or Spatula Swirl

Whoa! Maybe not. I just cut an end piece and am shocked because it looks pretty cool. Certainly not what I planned or expected, but maybe not a complete fail, after all.

SMF May 2023 Challenge: Spoon or Spatula Swirl

I just took it out of the mold and pulled it out of the freezer paper. It looks like a brick of moldy cheese. I see a rebatch in my near future.

SMF May 2023 Challenge: Spoon or Spatula Swirl

Oh man, I wish I wouldn't have taken a peak. It's even uglier than I imagined. I thought DB discolored to brown. That part is now dark green/brown! Looks to me like the top of a spinach pizza right now 🤦

SMF May 2023 Challenge: Spoon or Spatula Swirl

Gah! I've got a feeling mine won't qualify. I may or may not have time for a second attempt tomorrow. It was unbelievable! I might've just made my ugliest soap yet! I did two colors. One color was fragranced and set up FAST while the unfragranced just would not trace beyond light/med despite my...

SMF May 2023 Challenge: Spoon or Spatula Swirl

I've been waiting on mica to show up in the mail specifically for this challenge and it's not here yet. Somehow my package got redirected to the other side of my state by accident and is taking the scenic route to get here. So, I've recalculated everything and changed my plan entirely. We'll see...
