Yes, I noticed that too. I think beveling the edges help. It allows the user to swirl the soap more easily around and around between the palms to get a good lather started. After the first use, moisture sinks into the outermost layer to keep it soft and easier to get a good lather.

@The Efficacious Gentleman, so is the citric acid increased by 60%? That's the amount of extra lye called for in most examples. If that is the case, multiply 1.25% citric acid by a factor of 1.6 to get 2% citrate. Does 1.25% citric acid equal 2% citrate in the soap solution? I have hung around...
