What soapy thing have you done today?

While checking on my 2 day old aloe & matcha tea soap, I found DOS on one of my older soaps-first time. So far that's the only one. I' started soaping in July and I've had good success because I kept it simple, no FO or EOs. I just used different oils. Now, I've moved into FO & EOs and what a...

    First cocoa butter soap

If you have older plumbing, a high superfat like that may clog your drain pipes. I had to cut my soaps back to 3% from 5% to prevent it. Now, I'm thinking of just making it 1% and having a longer cure.

Did you use some other additives for hardness like salt or vinegar? If so the use of SL might have been overkill.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made my "long term" (cure 6 months) soap as I call it-10% CO, 45% OO & lard. But it accelerated and turned solid within 30 seconds, my first time experiencing this. I've read this forum enough to know not to panic so I hurried and just put in the mold quickly. The mica started out a beautiful...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I'm going to make a soap with 10% castor, 45% OO, 45% lard and let it cure for 6 months to see what I get. I suppose it would be really creamy.

I thought you were making a pun because the soaps looking like they are laughing, especially the one laying down. They look great to me as well.

    PH of lotions and creams

Does anyone test the PH of their lotions and creams? Just saw a video were that was suggested. Apparently, preservatives can cause lotions and creams to be acidic. The presenter's cream was less than 4 (tested with a meter) so she added a lye solution to bring it up to a little over 5 PH. Just...

My Cousins Vinny and Sal (butter)

Just use less. My first batch of whipped butter I used 50% and that was way too much. It was so hard so I kept adding olive oil until it whipped nicely. My first soap I used like 25% and my son said it made his skin oily. Now I use about 5-7 percent and a low superfat and it works fine.

My Cousins Vinny and Sal (butter)

Sal butter is great in soap and lotion. I use it exclusively and in lotions it is less greasy than cocoa or shea butter. It’s a harder butter so you’ll use less in lotions. It leaves a shine on my skin which I love.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Just something I got from Michael's. I don't think I'm going to use it for CP because I just did a PH test on this soap and the water was tainted pink. I probably used too much.

    Adding cream to CP soaps

Sorry, I forgot to look at the date.

Yeah, I pretty much knew that but I wanted to experiment. It did color my soap so I can still use it. It wasn't a total waste.

    Adding cream to CP soaps

You can also use it as a milk fat (oil) in your calculation. There is "milk fat" entry in the oil section of your lye calculator. That's where I put mine so I can add more milk and it's easier than freezing milk and all that jazz. Also, I make sure everything is at room temperature-milk, lye...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I used a liquid colorant from a craft store to swirl but it didn't have the effect I wanted. A liquid is easier to use but the colors are not vibrant at all but it's good to give soaps a subtle color without pulling out a mica.

    Lye Fumes

I mix my lye water outside at arm's length. Since I make small batches (10ozs of oil), I don't need to stir. I just swish the mixture around and it dissolves pretty quickly. And I leave it outside, except for today-too hot.
