    Help w/ Volcano

    >>>What did you end up doing with the boiled-over soap? It was a mess so I tossed it out. I made a new batch with the crock on "Warm" instead of "Low". It took longer to melt the CO but it eventually got there. I added the lye water and stick blended it to light trace. I then put the crock on...

    Help w/ Volcano

Crock pot was set to low temp. I never left it for an instant. I stood there the whole time and watched in amazement as it foamed up and boiled over. I had no idea what to do about it at the time. What's a good oil temp to have for this recipe when I pour the lye water in?

    Help w/ Volcano

Here it is about an hour later. There's more on the table than there is in the bowl

    Help w/ Volcano

Hello Fellow Soapers - I'm making what seems like a pretty basic HP batch and it is volcanoing for some reason. Any ideas?

    HP Batch Fail - HELP

I remade the recipe with the oils at 125F when I added the lye water which was at 122F. It blended well and is cooking now with no problems. Thank you everyone.

    HP Batch Fail - HELP

The oils had been in the crock pot set on low for over an hour before I poured the lye water in so they were probably up around 180F - 200F by then. The lye water was around 85F (ambient). I did immediately try to stir the pot when it started started bubbling over but to no avail. Better image...

    HP Batch Fail - HELP

I "made" the attached recipe today (see Recipe2.jpg). I carefully measured the oils and placed them in the crock pot which was on low. I waited until all the solid oils had melted and then poured the lye water in. Everything looked good at that point. I immersed the stick blender and turned it...

    HELP! Recipe fail!

Thank you all for the comments. Consensus is clearly stearic acid. Interesting that nothing in the calculator hints of this problem. @Obsidian - by "rebatch" do you mean throw it out and start over with a different recipe or do you mean cook what I've got in the crock pot and carry on?

    HELP! Recipe fail!

I designed the attached recipe using the SoapMaking Friend calculator. The "Recipe Properties" bar graph shows all green - everything looked good on paper. However, when I actually made the batch it went from liquid to a near-solid paste within a few seconds (literally) of adding the lye water...

Do I really have to wait 6 weeks to use my soap?

I've made around 15 batches of HP soap over the past year. This past weekend I made a batch of CP soap for the first time. It set up just fine overnight and I cut it into bars the next morning. This soap looks and feels just like my HP soap does at this point (which would then be ready to use)...

    Problem with Selectshades.com

I'd really like to order the set of 8 colorants offerred by selectshades.com but I can't figure out how to order them. When I click on Basic 8 Sets I get a page that says "no products found". When I call the telephone number I get a generic sounding answering machine. Has anyone ordered from...

    HP Hex shaped almond peach

Negligible seepage between panels. Overall the idea worked well, just the problem with getting the soap out of the mold. I will try the mineral oil idea suggested by Obsidian and let you know how that goes. I really like the way the hex shaped bars feel in my hand so I hope I can get this to...

    HP Hex shaped almond peach

This is the 2nd batch of HP soap I've made. I built a hex shaped mold out of wood and hinges and covered with heat resistant mylar (10 mil thick). The soap really stuck to the mylar though and I had to use quite a bit of force to separate the column of soap from the mold causing me to...

    Questions about EOs/FOs and soapcalc

I'm new to soap making and have a couple of questions: 1) I've used the Tea Tree and Cedar EOs both from Brambleberry.com. I used 1.5 oz of each of those in a 3 lb batch. I added them near the end of a HP recipe (it was a 5% SF recipe). The soap ended up smelling pretty nice. The Tea Tree...
