Top 2 Oils to Keep on Hand...

P.S. i'm currently experimenting with using lard instead of palm. I personally find the 'idea' of lard based soap to be ickie. But I can't argue with blind test results. My testers LOVE it. And when I tell them later what was in it, they don't seem to mind. I also make a vegan recipe with...

Top 2 Oils to Keep on Hand...

Like you, I quit making soap for a long time. I didn't make near as much as you made though (300 batches, huh? Wow! That is amazing!). But when I got back into it in 2008, I was surprised to see a significant number of soapers were looking for ways to avoid using Palm. To me, that was a...

    Does anyone actually soap lilac?

I need to take a better picture so you can see the true colors. That was a dim pic from my iPhone. I just split my batch into thirds and colored each one and poured. I waited about 15 minutes in between each layer. My trace was medium to thick. My colors are from Select Shades. The top...

Is it really necessary to have insurance when selling soap?

Oh goodness, you were doing good just juggling family and a phone call. I only have 1 child that maxes me out. :-) My question is more along the lines of someone filing a claim because of a problem with your soap on the skin. In the few soapmakers I've talked to about this, none seem to be...

Is it really necessary to have insurance when selling soap?

Will you also ask what kind of documentation and due diligence they require f someone files a claim against you?

    Castille Soap and lather

I make mine with 85% Olive Oil and 15% Coconut Oil because pure Castile (100% Olive Oil) is too slimy for me. Actually my 85/15 recipe is too slimy for me too, but it's at least tolerable. I have some that I made almost 2 years ago and I just tested it again. Still slimy. :( But...

    Buttermilk Castille

Those look great! Did you use liquid buttermilk or powder? I just bought the 12 bar silicone mold also and will be using it for my next batch of salt bars.

    new soap and clogged drains!!!

I have a septic tank and do not have the luxury of leaving my pots and stuff out (5 year old and also a cat) so I make a healthy investment in paper towels. I wipe everything down really good so the trace amounts left on my equipment are small enough that I'm sure they don't cause any problems...

First Batch ever, how does it look?

Looks like you did a great job! I don't see anything wrong with it at all. Now the hard part will be waiting until it's cured before you try it. Most of us didn't wait so if you don't wait you'll be normal. You won't like how the soap feels but you'll be normal.

    Cornstarch

Now that this is a few months old, I'm wondering if anyone was inspired to go and test some of this out. If so, what did you find? Any surprises?

    Woodfield's

Congratulations saltydog!! You're going to love it! Just make sure you push the corners of the liner down really good and when you unmold, you can remove the wingnuts and leave the washers in place, set the whole side gently aside, remove the soap, then bring the removed side back and line it...

    Spearmint soap

I have the same problem with a lot of the FOs I use so I switched to CPOP also it works everytime. It stands for Cold Process Oven Process. A note of caution, don't do this with recipes or ingredients that heat up a lot such as high coconut recipes or when you add milk. The results won't be...
