Candle making supplies in Denver area

Does anyone know if there are any shops in the Denver, CO area that carry LX candle wicks? I am ready to give candle making a try. I have been thinking of making a variety of container type candles from various types of wax. Mainly pariffin and beeswax. At the moment I have enough wax to get...

How long will Potassium Hydroxide last

Once my Sodium Hydroxide starts clumping it is marked for cleaning and pretzel making. Luckly so far it hasn't happened often and I have had bottles sit on the shelf for over 5 years before using. (I am cheap so by lye in quantities larger than I will use within a decent amount of time)

    Pinetar sloooww...to trace???

I am intrigued by the long time before it traced. I am going to have to try a batch without using a stick blender. I have used the Horse Health brand and American Rope & Tar brand PT and it has always been a rush to get it in a mold before it completely seized up.

Very quick trace/seizing with very old lye and oils.

I upped the castor from 10 to 15 %, removed 10% shea butter and added 5% CO for this recipe. Will try bumping castor down again. My problem is I am cheap and hate throwing things away so I get the big bottles of OO from Costco and it ends up sitting around. Same with the castor. I bought a...

Very quick trace/seizing with very old lye and oils.

I soap infrequently lately so my lye and oils/fats have become very old. Since I am usually the only one using my soap, it doesn't really bother me. Anyway I recently added a little bit of coconut oil back to my recipe and upped my superfat to compensate for the drying affects of it. I have done...

@Professor Bernardo Here is a quick reply I posted to another thread about Wellington: I recently ordered from them after looking over their website for many years. I ordered four 8oz bottles and received three 0.5 oz samples. I got Dirt, Leather, Tobacco and Ginger Verbena and samples of Nag...

Late to the party. I recently ordered from them after looking over their website for many years. I ordered four 8oz bottles and received three 0.5 oz samples. I got Dirt, Leather, Tobacco and Ginger Verbena and samples of Nag Champa, Dragon Blood and Pine. I have since tested all of these at an...

Leather Fragrance Oil - Which supplier is best?

I just made a test batch with Wellington Fragrance Leather FO. It does seem slightly light in the smell but when I did get a good whiff it was very similar to what my old fringe leather jacket smelled like. My nose might have been somewhat blown out since I was working with four different FOs. I...

Well, I took the plunge and ordered from Wellington. I have been curious for too long. I orders 8oz bottles of Dirt, Leather, Tobacco and Ginger Verbena. I requested samples of Dragon Blood, Nag Champa and Forest Pine. I will post my thoughts once I receive and use the fragrances.

Pine tar soap did not turn out right

I have done a few batches of pine tar soap. They always go real fast once the pine tar is added. The first time I was using a 2lb 3" PVC pipe mold and was scooping glops of batter in at the end. I built a 2lb slab mold after that and make sure everything is ready before starting. I have not seen...

Colorants you can grow (or that grow in your country)

I don't recall it turning brown but it has been a while since I have used it. My last batch with it I used WAY to much and got a super dark green. I think there is one bar left. I have to dig it out and get a picture. Attached a picture I took soon after making it. The color has not changed much...

Colorants you can grow (or that grow in your country)

I have used turmeric to get a decent yellow, paprika gives a nice orange and sage for green. For turmeric and paprika I used store bought ground spice and just mixed it directly into the soap batter at light trace. The sage was from my backyard that I dried and powdered, then just mixed in. I...

I want to up my color game. What is out there?

Just emailed Nurture about what they consider their base color micas are. I will be placing an order soon. I look forward to checking these out. I am not quite ready for neons yet from what I see. Maybe soon though. Thanks everyone for all the great information.

The joy of soap mold lining...NOT!

I like the origami aspect too. I have found if the freezer paper doesn't get too much spilled on it, edges and down the outside, it can be used for multiple batches. I think my best is three batches so far.
