    IPA soap

I used hop CO2 - or tried to - in a hot-process shave soap, added well after the cook when the soap was below 160 degrees. Not a whiff of it in the finished pucks. Very disappointing, not to mention expensive. I have the same idea, and if it worked it would be amazing, so please let me know if...

    Couple of Weekend Batches

Thanks. In both soaps the yellow is much more saturated than I expected, but it's a happy accident, I think, as the purple is a very deep hue and the red is offset well, too. I will get a better handle on the butterfly eventually, but this was only my second effort, so I'm fairly satisfied. Now...

    Couple of Weekend Batches

I haven't ever posted any pics of my soap here, so be gentle. I hadn't soaped since the batch I did for the AL swap, and I need some bath soaps to restock, so I made up a couple of batches over the weekend. One is a lavender/orange EO blend and the other is a mixture of citrus EO and FO -...

    Rhubarb?

Okay, I'm a rhubarb junkie, and I'd love to find an FO that does the trick for evoking its unique sweet tartness. I know it'll be fake as hell. Fine by me. But someone out there has something without strawberry in it that's worth trying. So. What's good? What rhubarb FOs do I need to sample?

    Art of Shaving Sandalwood..

Wetshaving is way less complicated than making soap! No lye, no worrying about temperature, no concerns about acceleration, discoloration, morphing, etc. You can make it complicated, but that's true of everything. The Lord 6 is not a great starter DE, IMO. I would go with an inexpensive used...

    Art of Shaving Sandalwood..

Yeah, that soap does last for several months, but it's still too spendy. Make something better at home. That's what I do. But the scent...

    Art of Shaving Sandalwood..

Art of Shaving Sandalwood pucks are 99g for $30. That said, most everyone I know would say they are overpriced (although AoS Sandalwood is the only commercial shave soap I would bother using these days).

    Soaping With Yeast

It's all Saccharomyces cerevisiae, but there are different strains and mutations thereof. Beer yeast strains are optimized for alcohol production, baker's yeast for CO2 production. You can use bread yeast to make beer, but it'll taste terrible; use three different strains of beer yeast in an...

    Art of Shaving Sandalwood..

One note on using Mysore EO: I used some sandalwood absolute in a shave soap and it was so overpowering at my usual usage (3%) that I had to fold in some unscented soap to make it pleasant to use. Sandalwood is awfully potent and I don't think they would have to use a ton. Nonetheless, it is not...

    LGBT Soap?

My son loves rainbows. I have made rainbow soaps for him, including one that used 12 layers - each color poured twice. My go-to recipe is high in lard and uses moderate amounts of olive oil, too, and it moves so slowly that after dividing the soap and stirring in colorants, I had to stick blend...

    Your favorite commercially availale soap?

Nancy Boy and Yardley. I don't buy either - or any other soap - anymore, but I bought up quite a stock of both. Canus was a great tallow and goat milk soap. They went veg and it isn't the same. I bought quite a lot of that back when, though. And I still love the scent.
