    Brown + brown + yellow = purple?

Hey guys, Here is an update on my soap. Unfortunately the color did morph, and now the cocoa powder portion of the soap is brown. However, the iron oxide mixed batter still remains somewhat purple! I will try to use the oxide at even lower percentages next time to see if I could get a lighter...

How do I get this effect?

I agree, it looks like a stamp that might have been dipped with mica before stamping to transfer the color. The soap is really beautiful, thanks for sharing it with us!

    Oh, that crazy indigo

Oh, thanks for the heads up! What indigo do you guys use to get the pink?

    Brown + brown + yellow = purple?

Whoops, I meant Citric acid, not Stearic. And yes - the oxides came from New Directions Aromatics before they decided to discontinue them (https://www.newdirectionsaromatics.ca/).

    Oh, that crazy indigo

Wow, I would have never thought that you could get pink with indigo! I love the color, it is stunning. I wonder if it is just that one particular indigo from Soap Making Resource of if you could reproduce it with indigo from another supplier? Every time I find something that I like on Soap...

    Brown + brown + yellow = purple?

Oh, the water! I would have never thought of that. Its true - both of those recipes used full water whereas most of my other recipes use water discount. Thanks! This recipe was a very ambitions one so it had more additives then usual. I used 1 tsp honey, dual lye (95 : 5) and 5% stearic acid (it...

    Brown + brown + yellow = purple?

Hello soapers! I wanted to make a woodsy type of soap and decided on tiger stripe concept with two shades of brown (brown iron oxide and cocoa powder) and yellow (yellow iron oxide). After unmolding my creation the next morning I was in for a surprise - its about as purple as it gets! Im not...

Got it. Thanks for the feedback!

    Cuticle remover

Hey guys! I recently tried a cuticle remover at a store and was surprised at how well it worked. It tidily removed all the dead skin within a minute or two and for someone who suffers from constantly torn cuticles, it was a miracle in a bottle. But that miracle in a bottle seemed to cost an arm...

    Scent transfer

Thank you so much everyone for sharing your experience! I will make sure to keep my soaps separated further apart then I did before and I will definitely cure the peppermint, rosemary and lavender heavy soaps (as well as spicy ones I imagine) separately. I do not yet use any fragrance oils, but...

    Scent transfer

Interesting, maybe it's just a particular type of essential oils that are messing with me then. After letting the batch sit apart for a bit, I can definitely tell that it was the peppermint EO which got transferred. I will keep my fingers crossed that after using it the original scent will come...

    Scent transfer

Dear Soapers! So, I just learned that scent transfer is a thing =/. I had two batches of soap curing on the same rack and unfortunately the scents got all muddied up. They must have been together for roughly three weeks... Any chance that the original scent of each batch will come back if I...

    Heat and Hold

Thank you everyone for your input! I will try to keep the temperature in the range above 70 and in the same pot, that should make things a little simpler. (Cant believe it didn't occur to me before that they can share a pot). BrewerGeorge, thanks for letting me know about the immersion heaters...

    Heat and Hold

Dear Lotion Makers! In my experience the heat and hold portion of lotion making, where you bring the water and the oils up to 70 Celcius and hold it for 20 minutes, is by far the hardest part of the entire procedure. I just cannot get the temperature to stay put at 70, so for the entire 20...
