How to list lye in recipe?

Thanks for the tip! I will hunt more through the business forum for sure. I see you're located in Austria, I'm in Germany. All I can say is there is constant debate around the whole gift giving thing, but strictly speaking that is actually 'inverkehrbringen' and therefore subject to all the same...

How to list lye in recipe?

Hi all! I live in Europe, and am a little confused about how to write out recipes to get them safety certified (here, you can't even gift soap legally without them being certified by a lab). I have to list ALL ingredients as % of mass. So I started listing my usual oil rates, etc ... But then I...

Suddenly always soap on a stick

Thanks! I will check my scale. I wondered if it could be weather.... The oil supplier is the same, the FOs are literally the same bottle as the last batches... But the weather here has gotten extremely damp and humid; I also noticed a number of my cured bars sweating significantly more than ever...

Suddenly always soap on a stick

Hey! I have a well-established recipe I use in almost all my soaps which I've never had issues with. For some reason, my last 3 batches - same recipe as always, and FOs I've used before without problems - have turned to soap on a stick, leaving me to frantically shovel blobs of chunky mass into...

    Suspect spots?

Ah, I did wonder if it might be that. I used essential oils but stirred them in by hand somewhat late... Maybe I didn't integrate it enough...

    Suspect spots?

Thanks! Won't it kinda zap me anyway if it's barely 24 hrs old? I've never done it this soon, I thought it just always would at this stage?

    Suspect spots?

Hello! I just cut a loaf onto bars and noticed some spots I'm unsure of. I cut the loaf a little soon, it's been about 24 hours. The trace seemed perfectly normal when I poured; I did add more clay after since it wasn't the colour I wanted yet, and I didn't dissolve it in powder first so there...

    Superfat percentage in different countries.

Hi Dennis! I know this conversation is now a bit old, but wanted to join in even if late to the party. I'm canadian but live in Germany, and learned soap making from english recipes as well. When I joined the German facebook groups I was shocked!! Almost EVERYONE superfat at at LEAST 10%, with...

    Different soap/lye calculators

Oh thanks for the tips on how test for purity! Very interesting! Also earlene, unfortunately it's only available in German - that's okay for me, I can speak it, but I do think there are some differences in the way oils are available, for example. That might explain a lot as well! There is a...

    Different soap/lye calculators

Thank you! The other calculator I used was this: Handmade by Kathrin - Handgesiedete Seifen It is in German. But I will try that other one for sure. I was worries I might make some kind of error die to the different calculations, but it seems then that it is typical and should be fine!

    Different soap/lye calculators

Hello! I'm wondering a bit about how different calculators work. I basically always use Soap Calc, but I'm located in a different country and here nearly all soap makers use a different calculator. The characteristics it shows you are a little different so I wanted to try it out, as that one...

    First big mistake

I meant air bubbles in the batter because it was so thick I couldn't bang them all out anymore :/

    First big mistake

Update: cut it this morning and it wasn't a total disaster! A lot of bubbles unfortunately and not the pretty drop swirl I had planned but really not half Bad and smells amazing!!

    First big mistake

I think I managed to get it in there fast enough so it will be.... Something haha! But now I'm thinking: I guess it will set up much faster than usual. I usually cut around 20-24 hours, should I check this one already at, say, 8 or 10 hours to see how far along it is?
