How long CP takes to saponify??

Maloga3, the time taken for saponification to happen depends on a few factors, like the soap's temperature (it happens more slowly in the freezer), the oils you've used, etc. But I'd say that if you made the soap on Sunday, it should be done by now! Even if it's sat in the freezer for all that...

    Thoughts On Recipe?

You could also try coconut milk or even coconut cream ..... I really like using that in soap. If you substitute all of the water with the milk, it would discolor the milk to a light creamy yellow. So you could use a water discount, and add coconut cream at trace. If your water is hard...

    Palm Oil Substitute and SoapCalc

Moon bath, there are ways to work around palm oil - so you don't actually need a direct substitute. To work around PO, you can use any or all of the oils and butters that you've used with palm, and experiment until you find a recipe that you like and that meets your needs. Olive oil gives a...

    Thoughts On Recipe?

I think that your recipe would be fine, thinkativeone. But I'd probably keep the CO to 25% or below for a winter soap. With an 8% SF and a high proportion of castor oil, I don't think that 25% CO would be drying ...... Even though it does have a high cleansing number. I regularly use 25-30%...

    Cleanup

Soap is a terrible drain clogger, and a water pollutant - so I agree with everyone who said that they wipe everything off with spatula and/or paper towels before washing up. The less soap that goes down the drain unnecessarily, the better! Both for our plumbing and for the environment. Sent...

    Substitute for palm oil?

I don't use palm oil at all - and for your first batch, you want to keep it simple anyway. So if you can get olive and coconut oils, you're set. Try 15-25% CO, and make up the rest with the OO. It's a simple, but good recipe that will be fine to use after 4-6 weeks (if you use CP), but it...

    Bartender's Hand Balm

I've no idea about what bartenders need, DeeAnna, but found your story fascinating! They always say that some of the best developments happen through serendipity ..... and it sounds like you may be onto something here. So I'm really interested to see whether anyone else has any similar...
