Found out how to save your post. Found the line after Tara. I’m tech illiterate & adhd. But I love makin soap. Can’t wait to make the saddle soap in a barn wood style! Again thanks!
Sorry I replied to your post by mistake. I tried & can’t reply to Tara’s woodsoap because she has a line symbol between 1st & last initial on her site name. I’m on my phone that has no line symbol.
Thank you for sharing this fabulous video! The mica adds that zip, kinda like resin veins. I’ve been juggling ideas for leather saddle soap for some horse women friends here in cowboy country Florida. I’m gonna have to try this out. Gonna use leather FO & not sure if that will color the soap...
A great soaping conversation start I’ve used too. I ask if they’ve ever hot processed to limit the cure time. That is a good tell. I HP because my dry eyes don’t allow any curing in the house. The draw back is it doesn’t stay fluid enuf!! for molding☹️. Every once in a while if temps stay low it...
I have also splashed on myself & have vinegar water & a sprayer handy. Got my goggles on!!! I’ve heard of bad accidents w/children getting burned. Gotta be ‘safety smart’ at all soaping times!!
I use a very diluted solution 20/1 for accidental splashes.
I have used my jojoba & marula homemade shampoo after 1 yr cure. It cleans nicely but leaves a residue even after rinsing w/ diluted vinegar 20/1. I also have tried toothpaste and catfish bait soap. Use both with great results.
I made up a batch from a tallow & lard recipe. Added some bacon grease, cracklings, cornmeal, & garden blood meal. Stinky but stayed on hook even after I caught my catfish. Sad I also caught many old sailcats from canal that links to river to ocean inlets. Will try again nearer the big lake O...
I make a spray deodorant using patchouli, VA cedar wood, Frazier fir, a little peppermint for cooling effect. I add a good vodka and shake it each time. I change it up. I like men’s fresh woodsy cologne. Bay rum is nice but strong, expensive and takes over like patchouli. When I lived in the...
Ever so often my HP batch cooks fast and gets stiff. I added half n half w/ yogurt too (Came out with white blobs in blue). Slopped it in molds decided to remake it next day & it looks clear like glycerin. Nice. I usually make big batches so I end up stealing half to add different FOs anyway...
Can’t wait til you get an answer! Would love a nice refreshing scent w/NO phalates! That’s the same obnoxious smell in FOs that stings my eyes. Nurture is my only go to FO right now. A few from Majestic mountain sage are good too. They had a rain smell years ago. Not sure now?
You must be in southern Australia if you see Antarctic summer light. Always been fascinated w/Australian and aboriginal history. Bet it’s tough getting all soap ingredients. Have you used any local animal fats that none of us ‘others’ use? Made some catfish soap with bacon grease & a pinch of...
Do you use a stick blender to mix lye/H2O/ oils? It speeds up trace rapidly for me. I d cook my soap til saponified because of my sensitive eyes. I use good goggles too. It’s hard pouring swirls & fancy colors if I’m not careful with high temps.
