I just wanted to add my support too. My family also have not used bar soap in decades and are so used to shower gel they just don't think bars are preferable. I love making them anyway because the colours, textures and scents make me happy - like baking but without the calories! Out of...
I love mango butter! :) I find it definately superior to shea which does very little for my skin and it is not comedogenic like cocoa butter. I have also recently used kokum and mango butters as the only butters in my soap and the result is good hardness and a very mild bar. I am guessing...
Well that is pretty close to what I had in mind! I am really enjoying HP at the moment so I was going to try 75% coconut and 25% mango butter but also superfat entirely with mango butter after the cook at 20% SF.
What were the characteristics of your soap?
I have only just found out about the recipe known as Break the Rules which involves 75% coconut oil and 25% cocoa butter. Since I loved the the lather of my 100% coconut oil soap but found the 20% SF still too drying, I am intrigued to feel the difference of adding another ingredient.

Could well be, I had to use an alternative scale as the battery ran out in my reliable regular one. Hmm, all in all it was a bit doomed from the start! Hopefully the second attempt will be better as I really love the salt bars I have bought.
I definately weighed out the lye and water correctly. It was premade a few days before and stored in sealed plastic bottles but I gave it a shake to make sure it was homogenous. It was room temperature though so I assume the saponification would be slowed down. I wonder now whether the reason...
Yes, I think you're right about the water. I should have noticed that by taking the lye solution originally intended for a different recipe I ended up with a 40% water as % of oils.:(
Hello all
Can I have some salt bar advice please?
The recipe was
80% coconut oil
10% avocado oil
10% sweet almond oil
Total oil weight is 300g
Salt 200g
Lye 41.7g
Water 120g
I only had premade lye of 66g plus 190g water (25.78% equivalent) so I set the lye concentration on soap calc to...
I have been investigating the possibility of using dried botanicals for decorating my soaps and I came across websites selling natural confetti made from dried delphiniums. They are very pretty colours but surely these would be toxic? Does anyone know for sure?
Do you find it slows saponification too? My hand blended batch is firm enough to de mould, although the corners are soft but is still too high in pH. I am hoping it will eventually turn out okay but I will definately SB the next batch!
