    My first lye burn

There is a lot here to unpack! I don't buy at big box stores, because they are all scented now and contaminate the products. I would have to buy online. I use 3M masks literally daily and am a M or L in those. I usually just have to buy online and do trial and error for fit. Annoying, but...

    My first lye burn

Those are just the types of things I can imagine happening to me. The freak accident stuff. Thanks for sharing this! Since I have no access to medical care at all right now, prevention is all I have. I'll put in the order today for my safety goggles for the extra protection. Googles, mask...

    My first lye burn

I started soaping in the bathroom, since we have a long counter. There is a shower with a hand wand. I have no modesty whatsoever. If I spill on me, the clothes will be stripped off instantly. I'm curious how they will interfere with the mask, though I'm sure there must be some that will...

    My first lye burn

Speaking of safety, can I ask a question? I have been using a face shield that goes from my forehead down to my chin. It allows me to use the mask of my choice. Would you feel comfortable with this as eye protection, or would you also go for the goggles. I understand the concept of the best...

    Overwhelmed

I'm a person who dives in DEEP every time. I do a lot of preloading of learning concepts, then I set out. When I taught myself knitting, I was knitting in the round, doing massive projects, cables, etc. within six months. Apparently that was not normal, but I had no one telling me that I...

my first goat's milk, honey, oatmeal batch

It did heat up a bit but not from the inside-to-outside direction that I saw with my coffee soap yesterday. I looked at it again today, and it does indeed look like it was just an ungelled rind. Thanks for taking the time to help!

Who here makes soaps fragrance-free, essential-oil free exclusively?

I don't see this as a problem. I see this as my counterparts gaining function, and I refuse to believe that this is a bad thing. If they get to the point where they can do this on their own, I would be rejoicing! Most of my counterparts have days on end where they cannot function at a basic...

Exactly! I'll be judicious. It's all an experiment anyway.

my first goat's milk, honey, oatmeal batch

Thanks!! I assumed the white layer was the soda ash...just a guess. I'm going to steam it to see if it resolves. Kind of as a test. I'll post results to show what the steam does to the white on top.

Who here makes soaps fragrance-free, essential-oil free exclusively?

Yes, this! I swear I saw a statistic that said something closer to 30% of the population has reactions to fragrances in some form. Much more than the 1% I'm pretending exists. Without going into why I know this, I can tell you that the very worst thing to have happen is to have a disability...

Who here makes soaps fragrance-free, essential-oil free exclusively?

My ETA and your post crossed paths. I know the business side of it. I won't be prioritizing profits. People are much more important than money. I'll have to have the finances to make it happen, of course, but these can come from personal money. It is the end of the world to make...

Who here makes soaps fragrance-free, essential-oil free exclusively?

That's kind of the point though. Sometimes we do (and should do) things for our community that are good for them even when we don't have anything to gain, other than the satisfaction that we were able to help someone who needed it. We raise backyard chickens (at our cost) so we can give away...

Definite soda ash going on (I didn't spray for it, will next time), but lovely otherwise.

Who here makes soaps fragrance-free, essential-oil free exclusively?

When I say multiple fragrance oils in a batch, I'm actually referring to recipes that call for five different fragrance oils. Top that off with the fact that each fragrance oil is a combination of who knows how many individual chemicals. I honestly haven't decided if I'm going to turn it into...
