Its been a year or so since my last soap making project. Could not find my best formula so I made up one best I could.
Water...........14.1 oz
Lye.................6.31 oz
Avocado Oil 5.00 oz 12.82%
Olive Oil - Pure 10.00 oz 25.64%
Coconut Oil 24.00 oz 61.54%
Coast soap...
I think I'm going to put it in with regular oil. My temps at processing are around 85 degrees so I don't I'll lose much fragrance due to heat. I'm also planning on NOT using the blender. Just a quik whisk. Having an epidural injection in 30 minues due to inflamed lower back with 5 herniated...
Thing is, when I added mry FO the first time, I had enough to barely stir it before it stiffened right up. The second time with the double batch, it locked up solid what the FO was added. I used a spatula to get it out and halfway smooth it out.
Currently Im just using olive and coconut oils. found out that the FO is in a "carrier" oil. maybe I'll try my good recipe and add the FO with the oil. Keep everything the same and use the blender cautiously. Maybe a litte more hard whisk.
"I" think if I',m to continue using what I have as it does smell JUST like coast soap, is to put it in the oil and maybe cut back just a smidge on my lye so it doesn't react quite as fast. Thoughts??
So I made my second batch of coast soap. doubled it this time. Went to just before it started to trace added the FO and it locked up 90% solid!!!! Almost didn't get it into the mold fast enough. Got to come up with a different plan.
I was thinking the same thing this morning with the bacon fat I have for frying eggs for my wife and I in the mornings. I have probably a 4 pound container and could save more since my wife cooks @ 2 lbs every Sunday for the week. Not sure I want bacon smelling soap???
Yesterday during several lulls at work I was putting in numbers in the calculator.
Currently I'm limited to my oils:
Olive
Coconut 76
Lard
Castor
Tallow(soon sometimes this week)
Shea butter(the only thing that saved my cracked heels)
Avocado
I think I really may try this one next. I like...
With my GRAND expertise of 1 batch, I added it to the container and zeroed the scale before adding the other. POPPED IT IN THE MICROWAVE FOR @45 seconds . When it came out just a little coconut was left and I stirred it in. Temp was 98 degrees
I'm thinking Kahlua!! reduce some Kahlua to rid it of the alcohol and make it more of a think goop. Add some used grounds for scrubbing power and effect
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. The temp was about 95 F. I brought the lye/water down from 184 to 100 pdq another 20 or so should be easy.
btw....was that the best place to add FO?
