Best Deal for smaller amounts of lye

I did a search, but can't find this as a recent topic. I am wondering where you get your best deal on smaller amounts of lye. I have always just bought whatever 2 pound containers were the least expensive from Amazon, because I just make soap for our family and to give as gifts. Our family has...

    Rebatch with oil

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain that so well. I really appreciate it!

    Rebatch with oil

I am sorry if this is a stupid question, but how does a person work a recipe backwards to figure out how much oil they were short?

    Rebatch with oil

I did a poor job of transferring numbers, and the batch of soap ended up with almost a full extra ounce of lye. This is the recipe: 12.3 oz. coconut oil 10 oz, lard 10 oz. olive oil 3.7 oz. grapeseed oil 3.2 oz. cocoa butter .8 oz. swt. almond oil 16 oz. water 6.68 oz. lye 1 oz. lemongrass EO...

    Rebatch with oil

I have a batch of soap that is lye heavy. How do I know how much oil to add with a rebatch? Are there any tricks to rebatching, other than shredding and melting?

    Why is it brittle?

Well that is an excellent question, because I have the soapcalc numbers printed out, and somehow I transferred them to paper incorrectly. So, mystery solved about the brittleness, but now my question is, where do you learn about rebatching with extra oils?

    Why is it brittle?

Oils above are correct. It was definitely closest to Parm. I typically make soap with a larger quantity of olive oil and soft oils, so I am used to being able to wait 4 or 5+ days to cut bars. Maybe it was just too hard.

    Why is it brittle?

I made a batch of soap with the following recipe because I wanted to use up some different oils I had on hand. 12.3 oz. coconut oil 10 oz, lard 10 oz. olive oil 3.7 oz. grapeseed oil 3.2 oz. cocoa butter .8 oz. swt. almond oil 16 oz. water 6.68 oz. lye 1 oz. lemongrass EO It was a CP soap...

Question- soap molds - pringle cans?

I have used Pringles cans many times, and I have had soap turn out beautifully, I have had the overheating/volcano problem (see my profile pic), and I have had batches that would not harden in the bottom half of the can and were an ugly mess when I cut them. So, while I really like the size and...

    Anise oil or oil infusion?

I have 2 questions about scenting HP soap with anise. First, is it a scent that will stick all by itself? And secondly, am I better off to use anise EO, or is crushing the entire star anise and making an oil infusion better/equally good? Does any one have experience with this? Thanks!

    Rose Oil

My friend really wants me to make a batch of soap with rose oil. Other than the fact rose oil is incredibly expensive, is this even doable? Is it an oil that will survive the heating process (I do cp soap) and still leave a decent scent? And lastly, assuming people actually do this, does anyone...

    Rose EO in CP soap

My friend really wants me to make a batch of soap for her with rose essential oil. Has anyone done this? I don’t want to use such an expensive oil just to find out it doesn’t stick.

    Summer shipping

Will it hurt CP soap to be shipped through the mail in the hot summer?

    Lye Ash

Are there some ingredients or conditions that make a soap more likely to develop lye ash?

    Why the brittle edges?

I left it on the porch for about 4 hours, then cut it 2 and half days later. (3:00 pm Saturday - 9:00am Tuesday) The outer edge seems brittle and crumbly. Little hunks flake off as I cut it.
