That's why I like buying my olive oil in tins, because it keeps out the light.
I only had DOS twice. I used olive oil that was in a colorless, see-through jug and almond oil in a colorless-see through jug. I know (and knew but wanted to try anyway) that light as well as air causes rancidity...
Thanks. This oil was not expired--it was extremely dented.
In the last 11+ years that I've been making soap, I've only had olive oil go rancid on me a couple of times--and I'm not convinced it was the olive oil, because when I stopped using almond oil, I never got DOS again--but yes, it can...
I"m just outside of Philly in Delaware County, but I am a homeschooling mother of a 5 year old, so I don't do many get togethers.....but I do like the idea......... :)
BB's grocery outlet http://www.captainbin.com/family/bbs.html
in Morgantown, Pa. Right off the turnpike, right off of route 23.
They sell groceries that are expired, and/or dented. (Think, stuff heading to the dump, but stop here first).
They sell the large 3 litre tins (close to a...
I am going to finally get myself a silicone lined mold.
I prefer a bar that is 3"L x 2.25" H x 1-1.25" W
I can't find a mold that makes that size bar.
I am willing to fall in love with a new size bar.
I also want one that will fit in my oven, as I like CPOP.
This one...
So it's a year later.
I'm wondering how it smelled after a couple of months of curing.
Do you remember?
Anyone who have used fresh banana in their soap?
So, I have a bucket of lye that volcanoed on me (I was too tired to make soap, and quit after the volcano).
So now, I have a bucket of unknown proportions of lye:water.
Do I dump a bunch of vinegar in it? (That's how I cleaned up the volcano all around).
This is has never happened to me...
So I just made a batch of coffee soap, that I use in my kitchen.
40 oz. olive oil
17 oz. coconut oil
9.5 oz. strong coffee
(supposed to add 13.5 oz milk)
7.5 oz. lye
1 T finely ground coffee
Okay so I forgot to add the milk.
So instead of a 33% water solution, I did a 17% water...
I don't know.
From what I have read, vanilla stabilizer does not work in CP soap.
I'd love to know if it can though.
Also,
can you use vanilla stabilizer in rebatching? (If you don't mind me adding to your question....)
I go to the indian grocery store and buy a big bag of it.
I heat the oil slightly (In the oven or crock pot at 140 degrees), grind up the pods (or just the black seeds) in the oil together in the blender then return to oven/crock pot for another 12 hours or so.
Or you could just grind the...
I have never used FO.
I am wondering about some scents that discolor in CP soap.
When you rebatch/handmill soap, and add FO that morph over time, will that happen in rebatching? Or will it stay the same color that it is out of the bottle?
