I had no idea about measuring pH on a 1% soap paste solution. Of course i will try that from now on...
Really helpful your post as always DeeAnna. Thank you!!
Thank you nikos for your answer!
I think that slightly changes on SF can change the pH, but maybe someone else can help on that as i am not sure....
Anyway...

I know its not a professional equipment but here is the pH-meter i use for 1-14 range. I first calibrate it with a buffer solution came in the package.

This time i decided to make some gls as usual using 85% purity of KOH from my supplier.
I used soapee.com for my calculations checking 85% purity for Lye, 25% coconut oil, 65% olive oil and 10% castor, 3% superfat. I dissolved Lye to equal amount of water and added the remaining "water"...
For cp soap i used to work with rancid oils and after some months there was DOS, i wont use rancid oil again. Check my last thread...
But for a gls how rancid fats affect the final dilluted soap?
For a castile soap during curing time (3 months) there has to be an adequate air flow i suppose, as i used to close my wardrobe but i opened it daily to keep an eye on soaps...
I forgot to mention that the soaps didnt have smell of rancidity... They have a medium to strong olive oil smell...

Ok. Here are some better quality pics. The first two pics is from my castile...

In many yt vids/blogs/fb discussions unfortunately that story continues...
Also some blogs and discussions...

I dont cook either during the process. I only use a stick blender from the begining when i mix oils, glycerin and lye till i got a thick translucent paste and thats it. The...
Hello all!
I ve made two batches of soap on March 2016.
I went on vacation on July 2016 and the soaps seem fine so far...
When i returned from holidays on August here is what i saw on my wardrobe...
On the first two pics is a 100% olive oil pomace, (SF 5%) soap. It seems that it has gone...
Yes the lumps go away with a bit of water addition.
I have used orange EO and Pine sylvestris EO and they didnt thicken soap, neither thin it.
Of course there are many kind of them but i usually buy EO only from one supplier near my town...
