So what are YOUR soapy secrets?

Thanks :D. I have a template in Photoshop, really any paint program would work. I have sheets printed out so I can sketch with a pencil or make notes as well.

So what are YOUR soapy secrets?

I measure everything into one bowl, I always measure in the same order, from largest percentage to smallest. I always add my fragrance to my colours after the colours have mixed. Unless I am doing a swirl that requires it, I go for emulsification vs true trace. If I am working with an...

What soapy mistake have you made today?

I didn't math. First batch in months and I didn't calculate my mold's volume so I had to very quickly make another half batch, which may or may not have worked. Because this was an EO blend, I didn't feel like I had time to mix up more so it might be really underscented. Only bright side is...

Afraid to start playing w/my new aroma chemicals

New Directions Aromatics carries black clay. It's tough being a pioneer, not_ally but you'll rock it!

    Creative suggestions?

Maybe fine shreds of soap dusted with mica? If you can get a hold of it, glow in the dark pigment is a fun addition to Halloween soap!

Afraid to start playing w/my new aroma chemicals

Try making the smallest batch you are comfortable making and test the aroma chemicals like you would fragrance oils. That way if something goes wrong or doesn't work, you aren't wasting a lot of oils or aromas. Do you have an MSDS for them? You might be able to get a usage rate idea from there...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Of course! And it's true I was looking at aroma chemical even just for perfuming and... well my wallet can't buy me everything I want. That said I am going on an expensive trip in a little over a month so after than my wallet will be freer. I have actually met someone who found a whale carcass...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I've tried many amber FOs and none of them do it quick right. I want to buy fossilized amber oil for perfuming purposes, at the cost I don't think I'd use it in soap... maybe. I know the scent would be much different since they aren't the same beast. That said, infusing amber resin is easy...

What soapy thing have you done today?

If I knew anyone who loved amber like I do, I might share. But they all like lavender, coconut, citrus, etc etc so the amber is mine. Mua ha ha.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Making myself a soapy treat. I've got a couple of amber resins infused and some patchouli standing by for some afternoon soaping. Not a scrap or a bar will be shared.

No partial gel, but sister called it ugly

The green works perfectly with the pink and cream. Definitely keep the soap and trade the sister. May she be cursed to forever use store bought soaps.

What's this cream-like goo through the middle of the loaf?

It almost reminds me of soap brains or zombie soap but I've never seen it with goo before. I've had large leaking voids but they zap like hell.

Mixing lye and oil at room temperature

I don't use a thermometer. I mix my lye, often hours in advance, melt my oils and when the container is no longer feels warm to the touch, I soap.

    Candelilla wax in soap?

Obsidian, I believe I used candellia wax at half the amount I saw people using beeswax. I can't remember the exact amount. I didn't soap super hot, basically as close to room temp as I could get without the wax resolidifying.

    Candelilla wax in soap?

I don't recall it speeding trace, that said this was pree hiatus and I haven't used it since I started back soaping. Mind you I rarely had too many issues with surprise acceleration, apart from fragrances I was too silly to test first.
