    Making shampoo & conditioners

It is very possible that your hair has become very brittle from OVER shampooing and conditioning it. I know this sounds weird, but if I shampoo/condition my hair more than twice a month it gets extremely brittle and breaks or falls out. My hair actually does better being shampooed/conditioned...

    Some advice please

Definitely looks like glycerin rivers to me and stearic spots. I have found that if using TD (water based) and it is not mixed thoroughly with the water or I use too much in the batter, when the soap heats, then I get the rivers. I just embrace them as part of the design. I have one soap that I...

    Any ideas what this is?

I also agree with the partial gel. I force gel mine by putting them in the oven (not on and totally cool) to prevent partial gel from happening. It is just cosmetic and may cause the middle portion of the bar the wear unevenly, but totally fine to use.

    Life Changing 3 Weeks

Cree, my condolences for the loss of your beloved husband, Jim. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you start this new chapter in your life. I fully agree that it was a blessing for both you and Jim that the cancer was never given the chance to make him suffer to the end, so this was a...

    My first black colored soap

I love it It! I think the crackles really fit in well with it, even if they weren't intentionally added to the soap. The color choices are great and really stand out against the black.

    Hello all.

Welcome @JillK! So glad to have you as part of the forum. From one Texan to another, it is always great to see someone else from our great state become interested in soap making. My advice to you is do LOTS of research, not just YouTube videos...unless it is SoapQueen and Soaping101. Depending...

What are your favorite additives to put in soap?

I use Aloe Vera juice in place of water, I also add in coconut milk, goat milk powder, Kaolin clay (used for "slip" and also to anchor the fragrance), Colloidal oatmeal, sea salt, sugar, and Tussah silk to every batch of soap that I make. Occasionally, I will add in Jojoba beads or poppy seeds...

Soap turning orange all over.. DOS?

What happens then if you use oils that are past their "Sell By" dates? For example, RBO that has a Sell By date of 10/8/18... it smells perfectly fine. It has been used in the last week in several soaps, so does this now "shorten" the shelf life of the soaps that were superfatted at 5%? What...
