    silk fibers

I dissolve a "wad" of fibers into my lye water. I put the silk fibers into the water, then pour the lye crystals/flakes directly on top of it. If ever it doesn't completely dissolve, it gets finished up by the stick-blender when I combine the oils/lye. Hope that helps

    How long do soaps last?

You'll be fine. Actually... you'll be great! This is prime time for making Christmas soaps because they'll be AMAZING with that long of a cure. Last week I dug out a bar of soap that I made in summer of 2006 and OMG i love it! It's hard as a freakin rock and lathers like a mofo!!

    Beer Soap

When I make mine it also has a weird smell when mixing with the lye. Prior to that, I boil it for a few minutes to get it 'flat' for soaping & it smells funny then too. But once soaped it doesn't really have a scent. Sorta, but nothing I could really point out to people as smelling like beer...

dumb question maybe but please help!!!

Who did you order the coconut oil from? I'm just wondering if maybe it's one of the "other" kinds? There's coconut 76 (most common), coconut 92, fractionated coconut oil, and extra virgin coconut oil. I've only used coconut 76 in my soaping, fractionated coconut oil in my lotions/creams, so...

dumb question maybe but please help!!!

Hi Vonna! Not a dumb question! I STILL don't know what Palm oil looks like because I don't use it, lol. But I can help with the Coconut oil. It's generally what's called "Coconut 76" meaning it's in semi-solid (white/off-white) form until it reaches 76 degrees at which time it melts. If it's...

What is with this bath melt recipe?

That recipe looks pretty good, but I get what you're saying on the fizz & such. With a few tweaks here & there, I think you'll get it. Up your citric just a little to get some fizzing action and the rest should be ok. As for the trouble with molding/mixing... are you combining it all at once? I...

Struggling to find Palm Kernel Oil

Lindy you crack me up! Isy - I honestly haven't tried Kpangnan butter but I've heard a lot of wonderful things about it, especially when used in whipped butters and creams. It's supposed to be pretty hard, so I think it would be great in soaps too. I've came very close to ordering...

    laundry powder

Oh how awesome is THAT?! Don't ya just love it when you try your own stuff & see how great it is? And we're our own worst critics, so when WE get impressed over our goodies... we know we've accomplished something fabulous! I've never tried the method you used, so I'm curious... how much...

What's your favorite butter to soap with...

I've only tried it a few times but Avocado is DA BOMB in soap! I absolutely LOVE hemp, mango and cocoa butter too (shea...eh, not so much.), but that avocado just wowwwed me! Hard to soap it tho when all you wanna do is roll around in it nekkid!!

Struggling to find Palm Kernel Oil

PKO most closely resembles Coconut oil, so that would be a suitable sub. You'd still have to re-run the recipe through a lye calculator tho, to see how much the lye amount changes, but the overall feel of the soap should be the same IMO. I don't use PKO (tried it & liked it, couldn't justify...

my house smells like mary jane!

I'm glad yours worked out too. Mine was a total flop. Don't remember right off where I got my cannibus/pot fo, have to go check the label in a minute to refresh my memory, but it smelled nothing at all like it was supposed to. Smelled like men in church. (how's THAT for irony!)
