    Wedding Song Suggestions

Puccini's O Mio Babbino Caro The daughter is pleading with Her Father to let her marry the poor shoemaker rather than the rich man. I wrote a string quartet version of Tonight, Tonight. Smashing Pumpkins had it withdrawn from MuseScore, but maybe there are copies around. I know of 2...

    Bug bite salve

Popular Mechanics recommended some soaps including Ditch the Itch. From the ingredients, I know the oils but not the ratios, and is the plantain extract useful. Would adding pine tar help? Any advice?

What ratio of lye, water, and oil do I need for 100% Sesame Oil soap?

Well worth your time to watch some videos and read some. I like Scientific Soapmaking. You don't have to do all the calculations, but good to have some general idea of the chemistry. Play with the calculators. Read some about the fatty acids.

How can you avoid inhaling Lye fumes?

Kevin Dunn (Scientific Soapmaking book) recommends a closed bottle. Check it is heavy enough to take the heat. I have mixed half first and let it cool before adding the second half. You can mix thoroughly by shaking. I also do this outside or in a ventilated garage.

Looking for DIY linseed oil soap for wood

I did make a batch of Kevin Dunn's Duckbar Delight. It is 2 weeks old and curing. I can understand the joy of making soap and enjoy the youtube videos. This site has me interested in personal soap now. My jasmine is budding. Maybe some essential oils?

Looking for DIY linseed oil soap for wood

Ace Hardware step stool. Pine wood. I added tannins then 50% linseed oil, 50% tung oil and KOH lye. A little too red in color. Still, it is protected from footprints, oils and has its own charm. I would recommend people do more with the "things" around them. Similar to making your own soaps...

Looking for DIY linseed oil soap for wood

More experiments than science. Here are some results. The towel rack is freshly made linseed oil, NaOH lye. Rubbed on the wood while still liquid. Full reaction may take several days and the color noticeable darkens. The pallet wood and hammers are with weeks-old NaOH lye and linseed oil, tung...

    3D printer advice for soapers

I watch Cheerios being extruded. The dough comes through a tube with a center rod then cut off into the little O's.

    3D printer advice for soapers

For programmers, there is linuxcnc.org, freecad, more. Here is another source. You may not want to do this much work, but it will inform you about the equipment. CNC Router Source: The Ultimate Information Resource What are you using it for? I am looking to carve wood into shapes, pictures...

Any particular oils that you can't use due to irritation?

https://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/soaping-with-allergies-nuts-gluten-more/ Here is more to read. I guess it is just better to avoid these oils for people who are sensitive. Allergies seem to come from a reaction to the proteins. The acids are the chemicals that...

Any particular oils that you can't use due to irritation?

Maybe the soap is not the same as the oil? Some of the allergy problem goes away with the reaction. Make a single oil, completely reacted soap first then add the results to other soaps or another batch of oils and lye. No super fat.

    how to use sodium lactate

I am starting by making single oil soaps to get a feel for what the differences are. Can they be mixed after saponification? Make mixed oil soaps this way?

    Scientific litterature

Started reading this book. Very practical with calculations on matching lye and oils to get full reactions no excess lye. Has multiple oil mixtures for recipes. So far well worth the trouble of studying. Basic chemistry, mathematics. Practical experiments and step by step examples to try. There...
