I use,16% canola (and 16% soybean oil.) I have No DOS. My theory is that the preservatives in the meat shortening I use at43% are the reason. Yes, I've had bars that were 5-7 years old.
For tube molds, I like to use Crystal Light (they're oval) and off-brand(Wyler's is round) Crystal Light containers. Spray with Pam. The next day put in the freezer for a bit and unmold and slice.
I prefer tallow over lard because it's far cheaper (I use the meat-based shortening which is about 96% tallow). Also, I think it sounds better on the label than lard.
Check all your local grocery stores, too. I buy mine at a store called Brookshire's. Do you have those in Mississippi?
And it's cheap. $2.49 a lb. Not as cheap as buying it in 50# bags, but pretty good.
I use all brands of meat-fat based shortenings in my soap. They all work beautifully.
On another forum, someone posted that they spoke with Walmart and learned that it is 98% tallow. I know others have checked on other brands and they all seem to be between 96-98% tallow.

Are you sure Soaper's Choice and Crafter's Choice bases are the same? I just tried some of WSP's Crafter's Choice Extra Clear MP and it was not as lathery as Soaper's Choice.
