Help for dry skin- bastille or a butter added?!!!

I've made the switch to all natural soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. As much as I can. This is all due to terribly dry skin all winter. It's Sept. 21 and I'm already starting with the dry skin on the backs of my hands. I've realized that some of the scented soaps that I've made, even though I...

A source for finding discoloration rates of FO's?

I am about to use 2 of my new FO's that I bought- Victorian Rose, and Hazelnut Cappucino. They are Crafter's Choice FO's. My main concern is with any discoloration that might occur or possible mis-coloration if I add colorants. I don't mind white or ivory colored soaps, but really would like...

Well thanks everyone! I guess I will be beveling lots tonight then! I will have to try the potato peeler, I told myself can't buy a beveler until I sell at a least a few bars! :D

    Which process holds scents better?

HP or CP, or does it even matter? I am wanting to try a batch of HP soaps, because I like the idea of not having to wait to use them! :D I am just getting into using EO's and some FO's and am wondering if there is any difference between the two methods.

I sure am having fun making my soaps!!!! One of my daughters just became a new homeowner, so I wanted to give her some soaps for a little housewarming gift. They are all about 5-6 weeks old, so were definitely ready. I was having so much fun "shaping" them, all I did really was smooth the...

    Honey bar oozing oil

Hi Carol, I'm new at this- just 5 batches made! But, the second batch I made was an oatmeal/honey, no milk though. I had the same problem... some where here is my post panicking because the soap was soooo oily after 24 hours. I cut it anyways, and after 5 1/2 weeks it looks much, much better...

advice on using turmeric in cold process for color?

I just got on here to ask the same thing! I had to buy some turmeric for my pickled zucchini and as I was making it, it rang a bell that it can be used to color soaps! How about adding it to the lye water after it is cooled before adding it to the oils? Or, holding our some oils until trace...

If my soap doesn't bite, is it ready?!!

I've been having fun (not) with the bite test! :D I have 2 batches of soap that are just about 4 weeks old. One has not bit me at all, and one bit me about 4 days ago, but didn't bite today. Does this mean they are ready for use?!!! They are high OO soaps, should I let them cure for...

    Laundry soap confusion

Regarding Laundry soaps.... About 10 years ago, I was making my own liquid laundry soap, no lye, just the borax, washing soda, and a bar soap plus water. We had extremely hard water at the time and it left a nasty film on the washer and clothes, so I quit making it. For the past six months...

    Who has used coconut milk?

I guess I must be turning into a soap making addict, even after just 4 batches!! I was at my daughter's babysitting yesterday and noticed in her pantry that she had a can of coconut milk. So, of course that got me thinking- what about coconut milk in soap? I know goat's milk is used, but I...
