I'll put my two cents in here as a retired eye dr. WEAR GOGGLES. People think the worst thing they can get in their eye is acid but its actually alkaline. I've gotten a few minor skin irritations (one on my foot when i spilled fresh soap on my flip flop!) but I will never let lye solution...
