    What happened to Zany_in_CO?

@Kcryss i don’t need Zany’s email address but if you don’t mind letting her know that I think of her with gratitude always when I’m using or sharing her recipe, I’d appreciate it! Thanks

    What happened to Zany_in_CO?

I just spent a few days visiting my mom who turned 96 last week! She lives in an independent living residence so I was surrounded by older folks and never caught a whiff of an “old person smell”. (It could be that I have joined the ranks and it’s just now part of MY makeup! 😬😳) I do hope @zany...

    Rocky Mountain soap

@Mike E - Citric Acid turns to sodium citrate in soap - SC is a chelator that binds metal ions in hard water, and helps to reduce soap scum. As a side benefit, it can help to prevent DOS! It’s usually added at 1% -3% of oil weight. If you add CA to your recipe, you need to increase the lye, by...

When can I test a batch?

Please please don’t lick the bar of soap, @Thomas Ancona !! If your soap is lye heavy, or has lye pockets, you could do some preventable damage. It won’t kill you, but Why take the risk? Gloves on, wet soap, get some lather going, touch tongue to the lather. That will do it!

How much faster does tallow trace than lard?

@not_ally I may be too late to pipe in - I made a 30% tallow & 25% lard soap yesterday. It would have given me a lot of time to come to trace if it hadn’t been for the FO! Foiled again - I bought a new FO and although the description SAID it behaved nicely - it didn’t for me. But if you haven’t...

    Rocky Mountain soap

@Mike I’m in Alberta as well - I’ve bought high oleic sunflower oil from Costco at a MUCH lower price than the going (up, up, up) rate for olive. I’ve been playing with the HO sunflower for a couple months and while it’s early days, I like it. The Costco business centre sells it in the 20 litre...

    Rocky Mountain soap

I agree, less SF and a low cleansing score works for me!

    Oh dear.... granddaughter version

I came on today to check in on you, as you’ve been in my thoughts! I’m so glad your husband and granddaughter are home safe and sound. Hopefully not too many aches and pains after the collision.

    Oh dear.... granddaughter version

I am so sorry to hear your sad news! I know the area - were they still on the Coquihalla Freeway? That highway is scary. I hope the tow truck will get to your husband and grand daughter soon, and that the jeep is fixable 🤗 And - how fortunate that your grand daughter has a safe place to go...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I bought the puppy mold to make a soap for each of my grandkids a couple years ago. It’s a nice size, and fun to use when I have a little extra batter with little or no scent - kids really like them so I try to make them safe for littles 😁. Not sure whether a well cured (6+ months) sea salt bar...

Advice needed: CP soap turning soft when used as hand soap.

I’ve found that a cleansing score of under 10 works well for me. I usually have coconut at 10-12%. To increase lather I add a bit of sugar, or honey - or lately, sorbitol. Soaps aren’t as full of big lather as a high coconut bar but I get plenty of bubbles 😄 Superfat of 2-3% helps prevent...

    Game ┉ Would You Rather?

A shower - unless it’s the end of the day and I’m tired, cold, and achy. Then all I want is a long, hot soak in a VERY clean bathtub! (A cup of tea or a glass of wine is a bonus) Would you rather make a tried and true soap, or create a new-to-you recipe?
