    Uk Soap Makers

Hi, I’m from Pembrokeshire West Wales, and have been making cp soap for just over 5 years now. I love using fragrance oils, Natures Garden are the best I’ve found, but it’s difficult getting them here. There was a supplier who imported them in but he’s gone out of business. Another supplier is...

    Syndet Shampoo Bar Trials

Very interesting post, especially comparing using butters and oils. I’ve tried a few HB&M recipes and like most of them, although they do work out quite expensive to recreate sometimes, so I often sub out some things for others. I would have A go at melting the broken ones in the microwave. I...

    Lard vs beef tallow

hi everyone, I love using lard as I find its economical to use, very conditioning and creamy. I want to incorporate some tallow into my bars to increase the hardness and longevity. I’ve done a few samples but not sure I can tell the difference. Can experienced soapers enlighten me on what the...

Sodium citrate from baking soda and citric acid

I know this is an old post, but thank you so much for explaining this so clearly. I was researching how to use citric acid as a chelation and came across this post...brilliant!!

    Scenting CP soap without EOs?

I’ve used calendula infused olive oil in unscented goats milk soap and resulting soap has a faint earthy smell from the calendula. I like it, but my partner isn’t keen. I would describe it as a warm hay smell. I just infused a jar of dried calendula flowers in olive oil and set to warm for a...

    Shampoo bars

Thanks for your story. Good to hear your experience over a long period. I see so many people selling and using soap for shampoo and friends say I should make some. But I wouldn't want to give friends something I wasn't 100% sure of myself. I've made a couple if syndet bars and conditioner and lo...

    Shampoo bars

I am really confused about soap shampoo bars and syndet shampoo bars! I’ve read lots of pages saying soap is bad for your hair and others saying they swear by it. My question is, when did synthetic shampoo come about? Presumably historically soap was used to clean the hair...so is it really bad...

    Hello from Wales!

Ha, I’m not actually technically Welsh either! I was born in the West Country but moved here 40 years ago...so pretty ?Welsh now. I’ve got into soap making for the same reason...my claim to fame is getting the microbeads legislation implemented in Wales, whilst I was a marine policy...

    Soap acceleration again and again!

Thank you for sharing this video! It’s so helpful in knowing when to stop blending. I too have been struggling recently with batter setting up too quickly. I’m always paranoid of not emulsifying enough and the batter splitting. This video gives me confidence to try again!

What soapy thing have you done today?

I actually left out the FO for the yellow and red, as I thought it might discolour...so next time I thought if I coloured my main batch (with the DB in) brown and left the DB out of the swirling colours then I should end up with the same-ish colour as the first cut and cured bar. Ie work with...

As you rightly said, the white is darkening to quite a dark tan. I’m hoping it will darken evenly. At the moment it’s a bit blotchy. Next time I’ll colour my base batter darker and work with that. It’s my first time working with a discolouring fragrance. So much to learn :)
