Tips on duping this (magnesium soap)

I know this is an old thread, but it is pertinent to me right now. I searched the site for Mg use in CP soap and found this thread. I guess I won't be using the flakes in my soap, so I got that question answered. Robert, I was wondering why you do not recommend the magnesium chloride oil...

    Goat Milk Soap Skin Benefits?

I saw some posts on using kefir in soap, but I haven't had enough extra kefir yet to try it. Not sure if I will; my dog gets anything extra we have. :) She LOVES it. The saponification would likely destroy anything beneficial in it, but it sure would be creamy. Are there any GM/no GM test...

    Goat Milk Soap Skin Benefits?

I was just reading through this thread, and wanted to add a bit. I have not used GM in my soap yet, so cannot comment on any differences there. But I have done a bunch of research on making milk kefir and wanted to note that the beneficial enzymes found in milk are only found in raw milk, not...

    How important are the numbers?

Note to self: avoid trying pine tar in my soap? lol He likes the clay because he has thick skin, and it cleans it extra well. Doesn't even mind that it's rose clay. :)

    How important are the numbers?

Thanks for all of your information, DeeAnna. It is very helpful. I went back and looked at the recipes for each of my soap batches, and sure enough the harder bars were in the 20's and the softer bars were in the teens for long lasting values. My harder bars have tallow, coconut, palm and...

    How important are the numbers?

Awesome post, DeeAnna. And I have been "going by the numbers" to make the "perfect" soap. Doh! My husband has asked for a hard soap, since he likes to really soap up and can go through a bar fairly quickly, so I was always going for a 20 on the hardness number. (sigh) Back to the drawing...

My First Soap - Please Critique

I have made a couple batches of 60% Olive, 30% Coconut and 10% Castor oils. The bars are soft er than some of my other recipes, but I like this recipe. I've tried it with coconut milk to replace the water, and added some kaolin clay to another batch. The clay soap turned out super nice - my...

Help! Where can I find palm and coconut oils in Las vegas or online

I've also seen coconut oil at Sam's Club. I think it was around 53 oz for around $16 (going by memory alone, don't quote me). Osso, thanks for the tip on the Spectrum at Target; I thought I had looked everywhere for palm oil, but not Target!

    Kefir in soap

Discovering kefir We have just discovered kefir and have starter grains on the way. :) I am excited about making kefir, and thought maybe I could use it in my soaps! Searched the topic and found this thread. Are there any other tips on using kefir in CP? I have done coconut milk via ice...

Did I screw this up or what???

I took the soap out of the mold today and cut it into bars. There was a lot of oil on the outside of the soap, which I wiped off with a paper towel. Amazingly, the soap looks exactly like my kitchen countertop pattern (a granite formica) - ! My husband thinks it looks cool. I did...

Did I screw this up or what???

Today, I did my 7th 2-pound batch of CP soap, and thought I had it all good, but when I checked it an hour later... what happened to my soap??? Everything was going just fine, at a light trace, and I added some tea grinds for an exfoliant, then 1 tsp of turmeric, and then I added the 1 oz of...

An admission of stupidity with lye

Wow, thanks for sharing! I am a newbie, and yesterday I made a batch using tea> Before I mixed in the lye, I thought about the temp being close to boiling already (since I steeped the tea). I'd noticed before that when I mix in my lye, the water temp goes from room temp (about 75) to over...

    Question about Trace

I was expecting the gelling to darken the color up somewhat from the pictures I've looked at, but I was very surprised the first time I checked on the soap to find it had changed to a dark brown! It has lightened up a bit, and is more of a mocha brown now. I have already taken the soap out of...

    Question about Trace

Thank you, Cmzaha, DeeAnna and Hazel for your invaluable information. :) I have been reading for weeks now, preparing for my next batch of soap. I took everything I've read online and your input/suggestions, and put it into action this afternoon. (yeah!) I did my standard 30/30/30/10...
