    Best Lye supplier?

Menards has been my go to supplier :) Not the cheapest, but I can get it right when I need it. I don't go through crazy amounts like many on here do. If you do, then ordering online would be more cost effective.

    Fragrance oils

I sent BB an email(or maybe it was an IM) asking if the calculator was referring the weight of the oils, or the total batch weight. They told me it was for the total batch weight.

    Fragrances order!

Of the ones you listed from BB, I really like Cedar/Saffon, OMH, and Mahogany. Some of my favorite "manly" scents are Spiced Mahogany(which is amazing blended with Mahogany), Shave and a Haircut, Tobacco & Bay leaf, Salty Mariner, Yacht Club, and Kentish Rain(not necessarily manly, more...

    Made my own mold

The way I made it, that shouldn't happen. If you look at the last picture in the original post, you can see that one of the end dividers is still in place. That one is actually screwed on, so it doesn't come out(I can't remember why I did that though:think:). And with all the other dividers...

    Wooden molds

There's more info on my mold back here. http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=60174&highlight=mold I made it because I had lots of small sample bottles of FOs that I wanted to use up, so I made it for four, 1 pound batches. Then I can take the dividers out to make larger batches...

    Wooden molds

I would think ply wood would be fine. Some of the ones you can purchase are made out of plywood(Brambleberry). I used poplar for mine. But I would think any hardwood should work.

    Happy Birthday Castile!

That's fine by me. Post away!

    Happy Birthday Castile!

Susie, I know your recipe well and have used it many times. (65% Lard, 15% CO, 15% OO, 5% Castor). It's one of two of my go to recipes. The other one I use a lot(I call it Obsidian since I saw he/she post it first) is the 50% lard, 25% OO, 20% CO, 5% Castor. They are both great. Now, I'm...

    Happy Birthday Castile!

Well, my castile soap just turned one year old, so I finally gave it a try. I actually tried it when it was a month or two old and from what I remember, it was a slimy mess. Now that it's a year old........it's still slimy. What is it about this soap that I am supposed to like???

Piano- my other obsession (besides soap and cooking)

Good for you!! Keep it up. Learning a musical instrument is a lot of work, but very rewarding. I took piano for many years, but never put the effort into that I should have. Trombone became my main focus. Next you'll be playing Liszt or Rachmaninoff! :) One of my favorites(a wee bit...

    My first Pine Tar Soap!

It definitely stinks at first. But as the soap ages, the pine tar smell diminishes significantly and eventually transforms into a very different scent. I use peppermint EO and/or tea tree EO, and it actually smells quite nice after a while.

    Your fav fragrance oils

I'd love to order some samples from Rustic Escentuals, but I just can't stomach how much they charge for shipping.

    Why is this so fascinating?

Yeah, there is something about it that is fascinating. I find fewer things more satisfying than cutting up a batch of soap. Not sure why, but I like it.

    Looking for true tea FOs

I really like the BB Black Tea scent. But it's quite heavy on the tobacco scent(which I love). I personally don't think it smells much like tea.

    Ash and oils and/or process

I get it sometimes. I use Susie's recipe fairly often, and from what I've noticed, it tends to be FO related. Once I made a four pound batch that I split into four, one pound batches. I used a different FO in each one pound batch. Two of them got heavy ash, two had no ash. Two of them also...
