Does shea butter make good soap?

It It does make a good soap. If used in low amounts can give a touch of luxury in soaps, I've made a 100% shea butter soap in the past and though it didn't foam well, it wasn't stripping on skin and left it feeling soft after use. Try anywhere from 5-20% in your recipe and see where it leads

    Alternative to Lard

not necessarily. Muslims might have an issue with lard in their soap, but not palm oil

    Sacrifice longevity/hardness for design

I noticed it too. Lard took more time to reach trace. This made pouring so much easier. Do you miss soft oils in soap like olive and sunflower?

    Leather FO blending ideas?

I love leather smells, it reminds me of a new sofa or car. You can add tobbaco bayleaf or tobbaco vanilla for a masculine scent

    Mens FO

I do a mix of equal parts tobbaco, vanilla and leather. Reminds me of a rich guy with a cigar in hand and babe next to him in his new car.😍😍😍

Hey Beginners! What was your first ever soap attempt?

My first soap making was an 80% shea butter soap, with the rest being palm kernel oil because it was readily available. I used the heat transfer method to melt the shea butter (cos i was lazy) and put a little beyonce's heat rush fragrance oil that i had lying around. It had honey, yorghurt and...

High Shea butter cold process soap anyone?

Update!! I made a small batch of the high shea butter soap 75% Shea butter, 20% PKO and 5% pomace olive oil. The soap was very hard, initially had a thin lotion like lather at 6 weeks cure, but it wasn't stripping at all, very mild. I really enjoyed this soap for hand washing. The lather...

~ Fragrance Oils vs Essential Oils? (drama)

Essential oils are known irritants. It's just as bad as fragrance oils. The carbon footprint of essential oils is large. 1000 roses for a small yield of EO, a lot of plants are killed in the making of EOs Besides, the properties/smells of essential oils do not last in soap.

How can one import nature garden scents in a country not on their shipping list?

I wanted to try some of their scents for my soap making because.of the amazing reiews especially their bamboo and absinthe scents . The ones available in my country are just bleh. They have funny names, and no supplier information and smell really artificial. Is there any way they can be...

High Shea butter cold process soap anyone?

The one back home is brown, a little softer than coconut oil in consistency at lower temperatures. The heat processed one has a very strong burnt nutty smell, worse than Shea butter but not as bad as neem. It's better than coconut oil for hair too. Super penetrating. @Saponificarian. Yes PKO...

High Shea butter cold process soap anyone?

thank you so much for the reply Superfat 5% Lye water ratio=1:2 i.e 33% lye solution. Is high oleic sunflower the same as the one used for cooking? You are an inspiration. Is the 20% PKO too much or too little? I'll try to tweak the recipe and add sunflower oil Thank you
