Separation anxieties! Is there no salvaging this?

Next time I will def try the freezer or fan idea. I cut into the bars in a deep tray and the only bars salvagable were one on each end of the loaves, so I decided to try my first rebatch. I used the double bag in a pot of water method and just cut them. They lost a bit of the fragrance. Too bad...

Separation anxieties! Is there no salvaging this?

Thanks for the quick feedback, Obsidian. I appreciate the help. Well, thankfully, I think the fragrance if anything is almost too strong, so if I rebatch then maybe by some miracle the scent will be juuust right! It's been 6 days so I'm going to take your advice and cut in a pan and if it's as...

Separation anxieties! Is there no salvaging this?

Hi everyone! I had posted this thread on the photo gallery while we made our first attempt at oatmeal honey soap from a recipe we came across online. http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=45881 We came back last night and finally took the loaves out of the mold. It came out cleanly...

Our honey oatmeal soap just poured!

Well, the good news is that the sides did slide right off and the sides and bottoms are perfectly smooth. The bad news, we had a last minute trip planned so they stayed in the mold and the house was rather humid. There is a pool of oil about 1/2 and inch under the top of the loaves. I noticed...

Our honey oatmeal soap just poured!

We will be taking them out of the molds when I get home from work tonight. I'll post pics of the batch then. I love the smell of the bramble berry fragrance, it's been stuck on my hands since yesterday lol..so I'm hoping it holds up well in the soap.

    Advice for new recipe

Hi everyone. Well, it's been a few weeks since this batch was made and I tested it out. The scent is faint but still there.. Though next time I will try and blend a more lasting scent bc I think there's a big chance the scent will fade in a little. The soap is good and produced a nice bubbly...

Our honey oatmeal soap just poured!

Hey everyone. We tried a recipe we found online today for honey oatmeal soap and just poured it into our molds. So excited to see how it turns out! We used 26 oz of olive, 10 coconut, 6 almond, 5 avocado and 4 castor and then added 2.5 oz of honey, 6 oz of homemade almond milk and 2 oz of finely...

    My 100% coconut soap

Hey everyone! I just finished a batch of soap today that is OLive, coconut, avocado, almond and castor based with the help of members of the forum. It's resting soundly in the mold now. I wanted to post a pic of the batch I did earlier this month..it was a 100% coconut oil soap with 20% sf. I...

    Advice for new recipe

Oh, and I also wanted to say thanks for the tip about the sugar. I added 2 tbsp based on the 32 oz of oils into the water before I added the lye as you recommended. I also kept the container of the lye mixture in a large bowl of ice water hoping that it would keep the heat levels of the solution...

    Advice for new recipe

Hey everyone, thanks for all the input. We finished the batch. We did 32 oz of oil with a superfat of 7% and the following percentages: OO-50%, CO-30%, Avocado-8%, Castor-6%, Almond-6%. We added a bit of Moroccan clay and a little essential oil blend of sweet orange, grapefruit and eucalyptus...

    Advice for new recipe

Thanks so much for all the feedback and advice. I looked up salt bars and they sound great. Like you said, I'll definitely want to get a good number of bars under my belt before I attempt to make them, but I will definitely give them a try one day. Everyone really helped here and we are going...

    Advice for new recipe

Thanks for the replies. :) I appreciate the feedback. I never heard of adding sugar to the batch--thanks for the tip, I think I'm going to give it a try. I'll also try to adjust the oils, maybe 50% Olive, 30% coconut, 10% castor, 10% avocado. Would that still lead to a hard bar (even if it takes...

    Advice for new recipe

Hi everyone, thanks for all the helpful tips and advice found on here. I recently started to renew my interest in soaping after making only 2 batches last year. My first one this year was a 100% coconut oil soap with 20% SF. I love it but my wife wanted a bit more lather and creaminess. For our...

First real batch done! So excited! Any tips for next time?

Thanks. Honestly, I might've done a smaller batch but I was working with a 3lb acrylic mold and figured I'd just fill the whole thing and hopefully get 8 bars out of it. My cuts were a bit off lol and I ended up leaving some out of the mold but I was able to get 8 bars of roughly 5 oz each. I...
