Is there a way to make shampoo at home?

Hey lovely people, Can one make shampoo at home from, say, liquid castile soap and essential oils? I think I have heard somewhere that castile soap dries the scalp too much and it shouldnt be used due to its Ph. Anyway, I would like to hear from someone experienced who has gone from...

What oils will make a moisturising soap.

Perfect. Thank you. There is still one thing I dont fully understand: how does one come to the conclusion that this specific recipe needs X weeks of curing? I have had some comments where people straight up said that I'd need long curing for a specific recipe, but how did they come to that...

What oils will make a moisturising soap.

Well, we did move on and stopped using lard. A lot of things have changed. Everything is of horrible quality these days and super expensive.

What oils will make a moisturising soap.

Right. Thank you. Maybe I am approaching this from the wrong angle. Maybe I should try to create a mild-cleansing soap that cures in a short time. Well, maybe 20% olive oil, 20% coconut oil, 5% castor oil, 55% sunflower oil. Then again, I am only worried about impurities in the sunflower oil...

Is distilled water important in the soap recipe?

I was wondering if I could just use bottled mineral water or tap water? Or do the salts in the water make such a high impact on the final product?

What oils will make a moisturising soap.

Ok. Thank you. I didnt realize it had to be cured for 6 months. I thought a few weeks should do. What happens though if I only cure soap for 4-5 weeks? I thought that would convert the remainder of the lye. I'll head down to tesco today and check what other oils we have. People mainly use...

What oils will make a moisturising soap.

What oils will make a moisturising soap and which essential oils will give a nice fruity smell while being anti - bacterial (acne reducing)? Hey fellow soapmakers, I have been reading up on oils/fats and I'd like to make a cold-processed soap of the following mixture: -80% virgin olive oil...

@GemstonePony Thank you. Much obliged. Do you happen to know this calculator? It seems to be decent.

What do I need to know about lye before making cold processed soap?

Hey guys, I am totally new to soap making and I have seen a few cool videos on YT - like this: that seemed simple enough, but there are 2 things I do not understand about lye. 1, Are there different types of lye? If yes, which one is the least damaging to the skin? Or does lye get totally...

1st attempt, making liquid soap from soap bar doesn't result in gelification

1st attempt, making liquid soap from soap bar doesn't result in gelification

Thank you for explaining that. So, what type of saponified ingredients shall I look for on the packaging that normally come in craft/bio soaps in order to achieve gelification with my next batch? Sodium Palm kernelate seems to be an option, but most craft/bio soaps wont have that for its drying...

1st attempt, making liquid soap from soap bar doesn't result in gelification

Well, I hear you, but it is not perfection I am after. I just want to ditch the commercial things I have used so far (even if it is at the cost of using something that has weird texture). At this stage I am just interested in knowing what makes one bar of soap stay in a liquid state even after...
