    Deionized Water

It shouldn't matter what type of purified water it is as long as it has been purified so there is very little extra stuff in it. Not sure about US but here you can buy distilled water from gas stations and places that sell car supplies as it's used in car batteries, called battery water.

    Melting SCI temp?

I melt my SCI noodles in a glass beaker in semi boiling water bath with Cocamidopropyl Betaine. As long as I remember only put the coca-betaine and the SCI noodles in the beaker, the noodles will dissolve in maybe 20 minutes. I haven't used them for a good long while but it doesn't take that long.

Seeking guidance on sanitizing cosmetic containers

I always spray all of my bottles and containers with 70% alcohol and let them air dry upside down. But I work in chemistry lab so I have access to pure ethanol, which makes it easy. Hand sanitazers don't work as those tend to have more ingredients than just water and ethanol.

Anybody used CROTHIX liquid thickner - help please

Depending on what other ingredients you have, Crothix may or may not work as a thickening agent, just a warning. I never got it work with my surfactant recipes. But the instructions I found said to add ½% at a time up to something like 2% and see what it does.

Help tweaking a Mg(OH)2 deo recipe

I made a second patch and only difference is I switched oatsilk to silk powder. Maybe that makes a difference... I also made a second set with only the oils and waxes to make sure the base is solid. If that keeps together the next couple of weeks, I'll add Mg(OH)2 and see what happens then and...

    Dimethicone replacement help

I'm little late, but another good substitute is Saboderm CV / Coco caprylate/ coco caprate, it's sold under several different names but it all works the same. It's the one I've been using for years in basically all my creams, lotions, shampoos and conditioners. It's oil soluble so I even dump it...

Help tweaking a Mg(OH)2 deo recipe

I finally got my hands on Mg(OH)2 this year and while I really liked my first batch, something doesn't quite work. It's based on cmzaha's recipe they generously shared in Deodorant help thread but something in my ingredients or the portions is wrong as some odd yellowish oil like substance...

A way around heating and holding?

Heat and hold reduces bacteria etc through pasturization, the same thing they do for milk. Officially you only need like 20 seconds at 71-74 C but at least for me the temperature is anywhere between 65-75 C so a longer wait maximizes the effectiveness. Some ingredients don't like high...

Emulsified body butter, but no water.

I just experimented with anhydrous body butter adding several different emulsifiers, solid ester or fatty alcohol in to the basic mixture of butter, semi solid (babassu) oil and oil. Also added some coco caprylate after wards. They all did something to the skin feel of the final product. I was...

    de-funk de pits

I'm not entirely surprised by these results. Aluminium can't stand alkaline conditions (that's the reason why you shouldn't wash aluminium pans in a dishwasher) and MgOH is alkaline substance as it has the OH ion there. Didn't realise it was that alkaline but like I said, not entirely surprised...

    Where to find BTMS?

I did finally find a couple. One is Finnish one, www.limepop.fi but that probable not gonna work for you as their website is only in Finnish and they seem to deliver only to Finland or Baltic countries. Other one is German place, www.dragonspice.de. Their website is only in German but using...

    Where to find BTMS?

I live in Finland. Yes, Gracefruit was the one I mentioned in my post. They might do it for me this year but after Brexit UK is most likely not an option anymore due to VAT and toll payments. So I'm trying to find European, non-UK place.

    Where to find BTMS?

Do you have any recommendations where to buy BTMS in Europe? I've usually bought all my ingredients from The Soap Kitchen but they have geared toward larger scale selling now than before and many things are sold in too big packages for me. I only make creams, toners, shampoos etc for myself...

    de-funk de pits

We have it in most supermarkets in here, so you could check yours next time. I have no idea how common the stuff is else where but here it's readily available. Or seeing if you can get it with more reasonable price elsewhere. Here it costs around 10 e, I think. It's not cheap for a soap but not...
