Why is Dr Bronner Baby Mild so soft

I make a cloudy OO 85: CO 15 liquid soap with 5% SF that is much more dying than Dr. B. Is there any way to make Liquid or Bar soap not drying without upping the SF? Upping the SF is a real pain because it gives that "hard to wash off" feeling that turns people completely off, especially with...

Which soap calc works best for you?

They all seem pretty good and have their own advantages. I use soapcalc 95% of the time, primarily because it has every kind of oil I use. It does the job, though it has several big limitations and it's interface feels outdated.

    How are commercial soaps scented?

I should have called it handwash; its not soap at all, its SLS probably brought from China and mixed locallly. I'd still like to know where to get some of those discount perfume/colors that they use since I believe its the same ones used in commercial soap bars that are mainly sodium palmate.

    How are commercial soaps scented?

My family uses a $1.5 dollar liquid handsoap that, while not the most exotic, does have nice scents. I cannot imagine they use the high quality FOs, let alone the EOs that we do. My bars cost as follows: 65% FOs 25% Oils & lye 10% Color and other additives I would like to use some of...

    Crumbly soap(help me rebatch)

When a batch of mine goes bad, I either rebatch (like you just did) or turn it into liquid soap. Liquid soap is easy to neutralize with citric acid. I don't have any ph strips so I do this: Once your soap is a free flowing liquid, dilute 5g in as little water as possible, add it and stir for a...

Got a hold of some Stearic, first attempt is drying

I've gone back to check and you're right, no-one states the purity and corrected my previous post. This is somewhat confusing now as I thought my biggest problem was low purity stearic. If a recipe calls for 30g stearic then do I add 30g of my powder (65% stearic 33% Palmitic) or do I increase...

Got a hold of some Stearic, first attempt is drying

Lee, that's quite interesting. Do you know what purity the stearic used in our soapmaking usually is? I see brambleberry sells in small quantities, (correction:) which I thought were 99% but their purity is not stated.

Got a hold of some Stearic, first attempt is drying

Wow guys thanks for the advice. I was expecting the problem to be much more dire! I've been making variations of the 33/33/33 coconut/palm/olive recipe for personal use and picked up both the 1/3 coconut and the 5% sf from there. I've done 8% sf before and not sure what to think of it. There...

Got a hold of some Stearic, first attempt is drying

The Stearic I found is 65% pure with 35% palmitic. Better than nothing I guess. (Img not working so I uploaded it.) I HPed the soap and it turned out really quite nice, bubbly and creamy, but now I have 2 major problems. 1. After 2-3 uses it feels drying. I really don't want to up the...

Not sure if I can keep soaping. Long WOT with TLDR

Seven, Aline : At this point I don't think there is a viable market. Due to many issues, some of which I have overcome, some of which you are all helping me with, the prices of the bars are very high. A 110-145g unscented castile bar goes for about $10 so the few people that would be interested...

    mice !! Can I salvage soap ?

Worst case I would shave off the exposed parts and turn the bars into liquid soap which I'd boil for a while. Don't forget to litter the area with mouse traps. Or a cat.

Not sure if I can keep soaping. Long WOT with TLDR

You're right Susie, I should have mentioned more. The post was getting long and I wanted to submit before timing out (timed out anyway). Didn't expect replies so soon  Thank you! I live in the middle east where rendered animal fats are not commercially available. Animals are imported and...

Not sure if I can keep soaping. Long WOT with TLDR

Added more details like region, editing for typos and clarity. Quick Intro: I've been making soaps for fun & home use for over a year. I still read all about soaping and can't stop browsing people's creations and videos. I feeling very much like this is my long lost hobby. The kids have fun...

Thinking of making a MP Soap Base, but which Propylene Glycol do I use?

Unfortunately I live in a remote area that does not have an arts and crafts community. I'm unable to get any arts & craft supplies for my soap making, however the chemicals suppliers have offered to supply the following Glycols but I have no idea which one to use to make a MP soap base. Mono...
