    Chalky substance on soap surface

You can reduce ash also by spraying with isopropyl alcohol (more than 90%). I do it a few times as it is gelling. If you are covering the top with bubble wrap to achieve a honeycomb effect, then that should reduce ash, but it wouldn't hurt to spray it once before putting the bubble wrap on top...

Using Evernote as a Soap Journal

I don't know anything about that browser. I would suggest you contact the tech support for either Evernote or Waterfox.

    Women's shaving bar soap

I made one. It didn't sell. I think I sold one bar of it. But I like it, so I will probably make it again for myself when it runs out. Here was my recipe: 40% olive 30% coconut oil 22% palm 8% castor I also used bentonite clay for slip. Oh, and I scented it with a chocolate FO and used...

    Bulk Apothecary

I bought lye from Amazon that tended to get static-y. The beads would stick to the sides of my container and even rolled a bit on the table. I never bought it again. I use the Lye Guy, and his is great. Never had a problem. It doesn't fly anywhere, and his prices are reasonable.

Using Evernote as a Soap Journal

Hi everyone. I mentioned some months ago that I use Evernote as a soap journal. I made a tutorial for how to use it (which also describes how I use it). Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to upload in the videos section, so I hope it is all right if I share it here. I think it could...

    Comprehensive guide of techniques?

The best compendium I've seen are YouTube videos. Aside from Soap Queen, try Celine (Soaperstar on YouTube) and Holly (Missouri River Soap Co.). There are a lot of great soapers who made videos demonstrating their techniques. For that matter, I make them, too, but I'm not in the same league as...

Hot Weather: This is a first!

No sugar or honey or anything like that. No palm kernel. I think it was just a combination of the fragrance and the heat that day.

Hot Weather: This is a first!

In this hot weather, it's probably a good idea, but I didn't realize it would happen after I cut the soap. Live and learn.

Hot Weather: This is a first!

I think it will be fine to use, just not too pretty. But thanks! I wasn't disappointed in myself so much as I was surprised the soap did this. Thought maybe my fellow soapers might want to know.

Hot Weather: This is a first!

Hi everyone, I had the weirdest thing happen to me, and I thought I'd share so you can watch out in this hot weather. I made some soap using the Plum Tea FO from BB, and it accelerated a bit, which I expected. I put it in the freezer for a few hours, then put it in the fridge. The next day, I...

    Soap snail trails

I am not sure what kind of TD everyone else is using, but this is mine: http://www.soapgoods.com/Titanium-Dioxide-p-670.html. It's supposed to disperse in either water or oil. I have only seen this happen when using TD, at least in my soaps. I think it has to do with the heat, as others have...

    Soap snail trails

Sometimes I put soaps in the freezer to prevent it, and sometimes I just let it happen if it's going to happen and call it "antique" or something. If you are actually going for that effect, it can be pretty cool. But if you don't like it, you can do as Ruthie suggests and sell them as seconds.

    Soap snail trails

I know what you mean, Wendy. It has happened to me when I didn't think I used a huge amount, either. I don't know if it has anything to do with how much you use, but it's just something I've seen happen to my soaps when I use TD and gel.

    Soap snail trails

I have had that happen to me when my soap gets a little too hot, especially if I use titanium dioxide. If I don't gel the soap, it doesn't happen. Did you use TD to lighten the top part where the streaks mostly are?

Oils to use for a white soap

Coconut milk will also contribute to a whiter bar. I have also found palm oil and palm kernel oil to contribute to a whiter bar.
