White spots on the surface of my solid hair conditioner

Room temperature cooling can definitely encourage fat bloom. Rapid cooling in a fridge or freezer, or cooling while stirring in an ice bath can help. Also, coconut oil and butters can have some problems together sometimes. All that said, AliOop might be right that it might be from incomplete...

White spots on the surface of my solid hair conditioner

It could be fat migration or "bloom", particularly with those butters in there. Look up chocolate bloom for an understanding of this phenomenon. What was your cooling method?

    Baking soda clumping in deodorant

I second the suggestion to mix while cooling. It's essential to evenly suspend something like baking soda. I really like Humblebee & Me's ice bath method for this. What sort of base formula is your deodorant? Is it like a lotion bar, with oils and waxes? Or a gelled stick with sodium stearate...

    Whipped Surfactant Soap

Sorry for the longest delay ever in replying! I just noticed I had forgotten to get back to this. Here's the formula: Glycerin 34% Water 20% Sorbitol 15% Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate 10% Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate 20%...

    Whipped Surfactant Soap

@AliOop is totally right about the coco betaine almost certainly being cocamidopropyl betaine. I often see people ask 'I can only get CAPB, can I use that instead?' but I guarantee you almost every DIYer is using CAPB, not coco betaine, which is hard to find. A lot of suppliers wrongly shorten...

    Problem with BTMS 50

Looking at the SDSs from each store, it appears The Chemistry Store does sell Croda's product, which contains Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, and Butylene Glycol. Chemistry Connection sells their own product, which is Behentrimonium Methosulfate and Cetearyl Alcohol. This is normally...

    Cosmetic Formulating Course

I'm also interested in this course and would like to read reviews before I take the plunge, but haven't found any. You could perhaps ask on the Chemists Corner forum how people like the course and what you might expect from it? There are a few course students that post there. I know it's not the...

Syndet shampoo bar recipe help needed

Thanks for your replies 🙂 Yes, I've found the same - gives them a "head start", as you put it, but isn't crucial. Also helps with my impatience to see the end result 😄. But if a formula depends on freezing the bars, I think it's too finicky. I'm also skeptical it's the reason some recipes...

Syndet shampoo bar recipe help needed

I hope it's OK to reply to some older messages like this. I just saw these posts and was curious about your experiences, because I've found the same with these shampoo bar formulas. I was wondering if you put yours in the freezer? Because I've seen people claim this is a make-or-break factor...

Nobody wants to try shampoo bars unless they're free...

I see this one a lot on forums, like it's some great mystery how you leave a soap-like bar to drain. I've seen people share the strangest suggestions for this. It makes me wonder... am I really that old? Is a soap dish now some antique device? 😅👵 I know many people aren't really swayed by...
