    How do you know when your lye water is ready?

    I haven't tried the "make your own lye" method... yet. That's a big variable to throw in soap making. What kind of ashes are you using? Red oak, pine??? That harkens back to great soap that would peel the hide off some body. A good project to undertake seems to me.

    Door catching on fire? I would like to know the story on that. Likely the glass was jammed and somebody just stayed on the button until it fried the motor. Wow... Spent 15 years as a GM manufacturing engineer. It's amazing the stuff that can go wrong. Al

    Hunting Success and Soap

    Good for you on the deer. My two bow hunter sons have been seeing deer, but not close enough to shoot at. But they are using recurves so the shots must be close. They already smell like dirt, so the soap probably wouldn't help. I guess that's a dirt smell... But then again, maybe the soap...

    My temperament has been described as bear-like for much of my life. That's the avator I often go with. Bears are often cranky and unpredictable. Fits me... Al
